Do I need a designer or an architect for my kitchen?
Comments (9)If the kitchen company don't have a design service they must have had drawings from other professionals before- surely they would make a suggestion? The person in question could be various types of building professionals, interior designer, architectural technologist, architect, surveyor- anyone who is skilled in the design and production of technical drawings. If you want them to interpret your aspirations and needs- that honestly is down to the individual- technical skill and understanding of clients is not the same thing, so you should talk to a selection of people before choosing someone. For your peace of mind they must have insurance to cover their work- Professional Indemnity- thus they are covered and the rectification is covered should they make a mistake- the kitchen doesn't fit for example because they got a measurement wrong. If you need structural calculations you will need a structural engineer. If you have a trusted builder and they trust a particular architect- word of mouth recommendation is worth a lot. Best of luck....See MoreArchitect or designer?
Comments (5)Hello ecchimo, An architect is of course a good idea if you're needing plans etc and you need to deal with planning or any regulations. If it's a PD then hopefully you'd be fine if you stick within what's allowed.. For interiors yes a designer who can help you tease out what you want in all rooms, with procurement and styling which are very much part of it. No designer should be just giving you what you think you want. They should be looking at the space and understanding you, to really develop and extend your ideas to bring you something fabulous! Something you might not have thought about.. I like to give my clients more than they realised that way the options are plentiful! :))...See MoreCheck out how we increased natural daylight in this London property..

Comments (16)I find that often people think they are working with an architect but in actual fact they are just working with someone who says they are, or when pushed will say something like "well I can do the same thing as an architect". I frequently get builders giving me the number of an "architect" they work with as a reference, but when I call to check out the reference I find I'm not talking with an architect at all, but someone who is far less qualified. While there are good and bad architects, you will find that all real and experienced architects, do understand "flow" and "practical". So if you are searching for an architect make sure you check that the person you are considering working with is registered with the Architects Registration Board (ARB)....See MoreIshwar Kaur
