how to get a neat finish from tiles/wood flooring
Comments (6)Have you though about using a luxury vinyl tile such as Karndean or Amitico? With the right floor prep you could end up with a very neat finish where it meets the tiles and not worry about expansion gaps. The wood effect versions of luxury vinyl can be very realistic and extremely hard wearing. I have used this product quite a bit in recent months even completing a gym in my own house just this week. www.fusionfloors.co.uk...See MoreStripped wood floor in kitchen?
Comments (22)If you have worries about maintenance then we would recommend a hard wax oil. We supply Treatex, matt or satin finish. Once applied after installation (2 coats are recommended) it will last anywhere from 5-10 years. Also, great choice of wood flooring as if you do get the odd scratch that's noticeable, simply apply the same hard wax oil onto the affected area and it will blend the colour back in. For those deeper scratches then it's as easy as using a bit of sand paper and finishing with the hard wax oil again. In terms of insulation, there are a number of underlays out there that will help, make sure it comes with a damp proof membrane. Again we supply these from a 15m2 foam roll to a rubber 10m2 roll. Both have acoustic properties and the rubber underlay comes with a tog rating of 0.55. We hope this is of some help, if you have any other questions just let us know....See MoreWhat dining table goes with wooden work-surfaces and wooden floor?
Comments (15)I had this myself recently - I ended up I did go with a wooden table - a vintage one with multiple shades so it would still contrast and not look too much/samey. I also put a jute rug beneath mine and once you dress the top with a runner and a plant/vase etc it looks great. Alternatively white always works and I love concrete but expensive - concrete resin - metal can also be a good option - I wouldn't go with glass - I feel it's dated....See MoreWood floors found under carpet..
Comments (9)As other people said those are the original structural floorboards in softwood that were not supposed to be seen. You can sand them and oil them and they will look more or less like the picture below There are several drawbacks. Firstly by the time you have them sanded, oiled, gap filled and fit an edging to cover the gap with the skirting boards, the cost is not insignificant for a very old floor. It's softwood so not designed to be walked on. Many, possibly too many knots so the look is a bit busy Many many nails and nail holes The grain is not that exciting and in reality you can only have the floor in one colour. The biggest issue is that, if after a couple of years you don't like the look anymore, you'll have to fit a new floor anyway. On the positive side sanded pine floorboards look in like with the period of the property. One final advice, contrary to one of the suggestions above, you cannot float old boards on top of an inexpensive boarding. Old boards were not tongue and grooved and have to be nailed down....See MoreGN Builders L.L.C
