Worktop replacement advice

Hi. I'm looking to replace the worktops in the kitchen and have come across GetaCore. Does anyone have any experience or advice in relation to this product please? Does it scratch easily etc? I do like the look of Corian but it's really expensive. I have also stumbled across Quartz-Lite that offer an 8mm quartz overlay that can be placed over the top of existing worktops. Anyone had this done? I currently have wood worktops that badly need sanding again etc, I would also like an update. I have cream gloss cabinets and polished pale grey ceramic floor tiles.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Hi Lola, I have used a thin layer of quartz from a company called 'Granite Transformations' in Cambridge. They have lots of of other outlets I believe. We couldn't afford solid and I was unsure about this product, but there is no way of knowing it is a veneer and it looks amazing. We did our kitchen from scratch and so installed moisture resistant MDF as a base and then they profile that. A few weeks later it is fitted and we are really pleased. Probably saved a little over a third of the cost of solid so a decent saving in a substantial kitchen.

Thanks, but there isn´t really a windo sill. All there is is the thickness of the widow surround, which is a couple of millimeters. I really would like to find something htat will just go along the join where the walls meet the worktop. I´m sure there must be some kind of trim that is commonly used.

Hi, I would definitely consider repainting the doors (especially if it works out cheaper) and would consider a dark grey with blue undertone to co-ordinate with your tiles whilst cutting between the wood / wood sort colours and shades. I would also change the door handles if you then would like to go for a wood worktop, I don't think It would look over the top. Alternativly, if you feel that you dont want a high maintenance worktop, I would look at the wood effect laminate worktops, they do vary in quality depending on where you buy but many nowadays are made to be tough and durable and require no additional maintenance except the usual cleans to maintain hygiene. If you are still considering replacing a laminate worktop we can help you with that. Also, what Schmidt does and I absolutely love it is an inset of a stone into laminate worktop so you just pick a spot on your worktop you would use for hot pots or as a chopping board and you're killing two birds with one stone. I don't know the answer to the question you ask, but a second option could be to replace the other worktops with the same IKEA surface. It might be more work (depending on the rest of your kitchen), but would be a guaranteed match.
