Is the wooden countertop real wood or some kind of faux wood?

I am thinking of redoing my kitchen with granite coutertops. I have a HUGE island that I do not want to do in granite because of the expense, so I am looking at wooden tops for the island. If this is real wood, is there a faux wood type countertop?

Hi ubumom, this counter is real wood, it is butcher block, it acts as a giant cutting board, the owner oils regularly to keep it smooth

We sell both the real Scrapwood wallpaper and we also sell flooring which has been used as cladding. The Scrapwood wallpaper is very good and realistic. Flooring would probably work our a bit more expensive than the wallpaper but definitely looks the best! I would recommend up to 14mm engineered wood flooring as opposed to laminate flooring, and some good adhesive to do this with. You might be able to find a laminate for this but still doesn't look as good a real wood.

Wood certainly has a lot more to offer in both style and feel and practicality, you can not put a hot pan on to a plastic chopping board. There are various designs of chopping boards you can produce with wood, as well as enhancing the natural beautiful grain and colour of the various wood species. The three species most ideal and compatible for a kitchen and food environment are Beech, Maple & Sycamore, The most beautiful and admired chopping boards are the ones that are also Spalted (showing scattered black lines) It is possible to get Spalted Beech, Spalted Maple & Spalted Sycamore, Also ripple back and birds eye Maple are exquisite. I have been having this debate. Wood vs wood look tiles. In the end I have decided to have wood look tiles, because I know wood would get scratched and it would bother me. We have small boisterous kids, we move furniture around a lot (dining table when we have guests, sofa to check for lost toys, breakfast stools and chairs all the time) - those felt pads end up coming off - and I don‘t want to be nagging all visitors to take their shoes off. So for us, the tiles are better. But only with UFH, and rugs in the sitting area.

I have solid wood flooring in most of my house, tiling in the kitchen and hall. We bought the wood unfinished and did all of the finishing ourselves (it was already sanded). Cost wise it worked out around £30 per square metre which is really good. Most of the wood I finished in Osmo Oil either Raw first and then clear or white first and then clear. It does darken and warm with age so this needs to be factored in when designing colour palettes. If you like fairly neutral palettes this can work well, if you prefer lots of colour then a more consistent Amtico product or factory finished wood may be preferable. I wanted to be able to re-finish and re-oil my floors if necessary. I have LVT in my studio which is really practical and looks good, however it doesn't feel like wood.

Formica makes a faux wallnut counterslab, it looks fab and withstands anything but pots and pans right off the stove. I'm thinking of using it !

Wilsonart makes very realistic faux wood laminate. I haven't checked them out lately, but they used to do a better job than Formica did for wood look. And it's so easy to care for. I think it's a wonderful choice, especially for around a sink.
