POLL: How much velvet is too much velvet?
Comments (15)One either loves velvet or hates it, there isn't really a middle ground here. Colour and texture is everything - same piece in subtle, smooth tones can be absolutely spectacular, but change it to frenzy busy pattern in loud colours and you can end up with kitsch written all over it. It generally depends what you are aiming for and the room you want to use it in. I find velvet particularly good for classic and eclectic styles. Velvet, just like tweed is timeless and can really bring a design together or simply ruin in, so use it wisely "young Jedi's" ;) All being said, we love it!...See MoreHelp!! Comments (4)I'd go with a dark grey on the chimney stack and then lighter grey in the alcoves. You need to match one of the greys with the sofa as three greys will not look as good. You could do it the opposite way round with the lighter grey ( or silvery wallpaper ) on the chimney stack and darker in the alcoves, but I don't think it's quite as effective. The fact that you have built in cupboards to the left makes it harder as you don't have the choice of having the wallpaper in the alvcoves with the darker paint on the Chimney stack. Maybe you could get a dark silvery grey paper for the Chimney stackFrom Very....See MoreIs velvet the new leather in interior decor?
Comments (10)Hopefully not long! But personally I don't like it. When I was first decorating a house 10 years ago velvet was nowhere in sight. Now crushed velvet is available for couches, cushions, curtains, headboards, dining chairs.... I'm hesitant to buy anything crushed velvet because in a few years it will need replacing or look dated....See MoreNavy, black and white combination
Comments (4)I agree with Sonia - I think you need to add the colour in the accessories. If you have a look at my profile I've styled a dark navy sofa with blush pink cushions and it works really well. I don't know if you can do this, but you could change the colour of the patterned tiles to a navy blue. It will feel less heavy. Adding metallics also helps as it adds warmth and bounces off light. Hope that helps :)...See MoreMichaela Roberts
