These are digital photographs that were printed on durable vinyl mounted on light-weight metal board. The photographs were taken from actual books from the owner's library.

For me it’s maximalism. Lovely in a quirky cafe or boutique hotel but at home it would give me a headache. I like a restful house and so yes quite a lot of it is grey! Not battleship grey or anthracite but bluey or greeny greys. Concrete floors. Depressing, cold, ecologically not great, look unfinished. Plants very high up. How do you water them? Walk in wardrobes even if it means the bedroom becomes tiny. I’d rather have a bigger bedroom with wardrobes in it, than dress and sleep in tiny spaces. Uber industrial. There’s a reason we usually hide cables, conduits, vent ducts...because they are ugly. Buying new furniture and accessories very often to have an “up to date“ look. I see all these instagram pictures with everything brass, mid century, wood, rattan, green (today’s trends) and I wonder what has happened to all their grey, painted, silver, shabby chic items from 5/10 years ago. And what will they do with today’s items when the look swings round again...

Thanks Georgia! Did you keep the bookshelves colour coded or let your husband have his way?! Also, with your wardrobe do you colour code everything all together or organise by type (skirts, trousers, shirts etc.) and then colour code? I find it useful to have my clothes sorted by type at the moment but I suppose doing it by colour would just be a new perspective on deciding what to wear! Also love your idea Firdaus, thanks! But what do you do with bright colours!?

My company specialises in renewing and upgrading existing stairs as well as designing and making new ones. Here's a project that we completed at the end of 2016, the first pictures are how the stairs looked when we first visited and the last ones with the glass are how we changed it. Here's the review from our client who was very pleased http://bit.ly/2oYjRFi . All our work is designed and made in house so you don't have to bother with taking templates to a local glazier. As you have seen from the number of replies the range of options are unlimited. Most things can be achieved with the right client and good budget but to avoid spending too much on something you don't need it is important to gain an understanding of how you want the whole house to look; I always request that my clients show me images of things they like, furniture, interiors so that a design can be developed that not only complements the design/ concept of a home but enhances. Depending on your budget, you could make a saving by just renewing the stairs in a design that incorporates a glazed banister and fixes the issues that you are concerned about. Site installation work is far more expensive than just making something from scratch in our workshop. I don't believe you have any problems offering B&B with the stairs as they are as far as Building Regs go. What you should probably take account of though is providing a staircase for the guests that they are comfortable with and feel safe using, if you are certain that all the guests will be fully mobile adults then in the strict reading of the regs your stairs will comply anyway. Building Regs approved document K requires gaps in staircase risers and banisters to be 100 mm or less to provide adequate safety for children. Following this, but also keeping open risers means adding a small downstand underneath the tread to reduce the open riser height. It will also pose problems adding glass to the side of your existing flight because you will have difficulty because there are not convenient points to fix the glass, nor have the carriages - the beams supporting the treads underneath - been designed to carry the additional load from the glass or stair users pressing on it, so additional structure must be added to the carriage to carry the glass, everything is possible but most people have a budget so I must ask you - What is yours? Yes. But with built-ins the crown molding should continue along the bookcases too, so closing off a small section of the top won't look bad. If you don't want to go all the way up, close off the top section, flush with the chimney and column, so your crown molding goes in a straight line. 2. No gaps. But you shelving will need to be a bit deeper then the chimney, because you don't want your books sticking out. If you want some more space between your mantle and the books, have the builder extend the chimney wall sideways, see example: If you want your built-ins recessed, the chimney should be filled out.. I would suggest a wider mantle base, from unit to unit, because these little carpet corners will most likely look off.. 3. Have a little less shelves where you want to mount your tv. Pop up? That would be a waste of the cabinet below. And doors at that height won't look great too. Have some doors on the lowest section, to balance out the visuals of 'filling' and 'furniture'. 4. The same color as your doors, trim, mantle. White. There will be enough color in them once they're filled.
