best place for ceiling lamp

hello, I have a design dilemma. I am going to decorate my bedroom and the ceiling lamp is currently perfectly in the middle of the ceiling. but I read that it's nicer when the ceiling lamp is centred above the middle of the bed,especially if the lamp is low hanging (which I am going to purchase)). What's opinion on this? is it really worth, for the final look to change the position of the lamp? also, I guess once it's done, there is no possibility to move the bed on another wall as it will not be in line with the lamp anymore... thanks!

Comments (7)I agree, the dining table and chairs are OK where they are; the problem seems to be with the sitting area. You should definitely bring in some plants and artwork/ photos. Perhaps put a 'gallery wall' of photos or art above where the sofa is currently. I would put low bookcases or perhaps a console table with lamps in against the walls in this corner and 'float' the seating furniture out, away from the walls. It may seem counter-intuitive but sometimes floating furniture more into the middle of an area can make it seem bigger, even if it means you can't walk straight through in a beeline to the kitchen. I think the main problem with the space is that the large through-way is actually dominating the space and making the centre of the room feel vacant. Experiment with rearranging the sofa and chairs to see what works best. Be bold and bring it right out into the middle and, if that doesn't work, take it further back. You may be surprised at what works well. It's also nice to put the sofa and chairs sort of facing each other (you could angle the chairs a little if you like. You could even angle the sofa!). My kitchen so far just has one coat of paint and a professional decorator thought it had 2. Therefore it may not end up costing more in the end I read a while ago that Little Greene can colour match F&B exactly (it was on a professional decorators site so assume it's true but will see if I can find it again) however people clearly don't do this as the paint price is the same however I don't find F&B coverage to be anywhere close it's also worth checking for an RAL colour match for any of F&B paints as you could get lucky. Comments (4)Hi J Placing lighting can be difficult but it is definitely best to position lighting on how you would use the space. For example, task lighting with the use of downlighters such the Atlas over the kitchen units for good working light. Then for creating that dining experience, pendants of the breakfast bar or table will offer zoned lighting for something a little more romantic . Low level lighting in the form of linear under unit lighting, recessed floor uplighters such as the Tera , or wall lights in the background, will further enhance the environment, adding different shadows to either pick up vertical features such as columns or just to wash the floor for effective that 'candle light ' effect. Zoning each of the areas will give you ultimate control over the lighting and with the use of smart controls such Lutron, JCL or Rako you can save scenes at the touch of a button. Below is a snippet of a design so that you can get an idea of a typical layout . Regarding switches, really think about how you use the spaces and what would the flow be walking from room to room as this will determine where the switches are positioned. Again with the sockets, think about what you will plug in where and what would be most convenient. There is not necessarily a rule for positioning but it is a given that you need sockets in each room just to plug the hoover in.
