Lights which automatically turn on when I enter a room (especially in the kitchen and in the hallway from the bedroom to the bathroom) and lights inside my wardrobes (especially inside the one in the bedroom: I often get up earlier than my hubby, and it may be still dark outside, and I don't want to wake him up while I'm looking for my stockings).

I agree, I think it makes sense to have a freestanding piece of furniture. It also means you can rearrange furniture if you fancy a change. There are lots of options for housing or "disguising" a tv but it's difficult to know what to suggest as no idea on what style you'll be doing the room

Rob Kewley, I have an answer on the costs. The kitchen cabinets cost circa £25k but please bare in mind they are all bespoke (fabricated on site, 800mm deep, non-standard widths, non-standard colour, non-standard shaker feature width etc!), which adds cost. There is also an extra walk-in pantry that you can't see in the photos that is fully fitted including beautiful pull-out wooden storage crates. By comparison I'm advised the same cabinetry from the standard DeVol range would be circa £12 - 15k. The marble tops, integrated dual marble sinks and splashbacks cost £8k. Hope that helps.

@OnePlan (Concept planners) thanks for your feedback, and @Ellie too. The wall in the middle is indeed an eye sore. But it is too expensive to take it out now - have we had the 'I' beam just 1.5 meters longer where the other door way had been opened. So if there is a way to infuse this way as a 'gentle introduction' to the open plan kitchen. I like the idea of a wall of living plants! or a massive painting that will be complimented by another similar genre+size of painting in the open lounge. There are a few good points Oneplan made regarding arrangements and space I think I ticked the boxes of some 'kitchen triangle principles' Only that I am not sure about the passage (0.7m) between island and bi-fold door. It is a narrow passage and would be used infrequent I think. What shall I do about it? Hanging a wall unit seemed make it impassable?
