Hanging rail from the ceiling above one of the bedside tables. Possibly with a pulley mechanism, like the old laundry racks you can raise out of the way. definitely hooks on the back of the door. what about adding a picture rail you could hang clothes hangers from? Definitely add in a large mirror so the space doesn't feel small. Don't compromise on bed width! Use the height of the room to max effect so you don't steal floor space. So you could also wall hang bedside tables to leave space under for shoes and give the appearance of more floor space.

The advantage of the hemnes day bed is it can convert to a double so could last until adulthood in theory. Would you/he consider a midsleeper? There are loads on Wayfair (with good reviews).
