Garden privacy
Comments (2)You need to add some tall but "light" planting along the borders, ie nothing to dense. A mix of evergreen and deciduous would be good and get come climbers over the fences to distract from all the boundaries. Increasing the depth of both side borders and adding layers of planting and interest in the garden would help. And I would think about breaking up the garden with a trellis or pergola running the width of the garden half the way along, or adding a pergola to your house terrace, as this will make it feel more enclosed. A parasol does the same job but only in the summer months....See MoreSunlight OR bay window?
Comments (9)Titiankim that was also our original idea before we extended our kitchen into the hall. We planned to knock through into the dining room and swap the two rooms round so that the kitchen was more spacious and looking on to the garden. That being said, unfortunately the cost was way way too much so we opted for a galley style kitchen. We’ve opened up the kitchen/utility and the porch is becoming a w/c. Some of the house isn’t on the plans but basically there is a workshop and outdoor w/c attached to the utility but with no access from inside the house. This has also been knocked through so we have a long utility/boot room. Love to see some pics of your changes....See MoreBig windowsill, no idea how to fill it!
Comments (9)Hi temple274; Thank you so much, I did not think about that!! Was focusing too much on indoor houseplants to think about greenhouse-friendly ones! In terms of ventilation, I can keep windows on night-vent a lot but being ground floor will only have windows open during the day when I'm home, will that be enough?. Night-time I'm probably going to boil...! (only moved in last November). Am not able to put blinds up unless I find any on tension rods (if they exist?) but I'm guessing that won't affect tomato plants?...See MoreSemi-sunken living room or Kitchen in extension?
Comments (0)We recently bought a small 1916 apartment in the Netherlands (67m2 + 10m2 basement) and are adding a 3.3x3.3m* extension at the garden end. Also, we are breaking down the load-bearing wall in the kitchen and making a few other changes in the floor plan to make space for a decent bathroom :) Since I’m very concerned about feeling cramped after a while, I was hoping to get some advice on where to put the kitchen and whether or not a kitchen island is a good idea (Although I really want a kitchen island!). I keep hearing that I should leave the kitchen where it is, but I still want to explore my options. Option #1: Open kitchen with kitchen island in main area + sunken living room in the extension as pictured in the new floor plan Option #2: Open kitchen with a long horizontally-placed dining table (no kitchen island) + sunken living room in the extension. Option #3: Spacious living room with narrow dining table on the right side + kitchen with kitchen island in the extension. Option #4: Spacious living room + kitchen with round or oval dining table in the extension (no kitchen island). Option #5: ? *Note that the length of the extensions can be max 4m, but we prefer not to as we do not want to block too much sunlight from our neighbors....See MoreMERRICK DESIGNS
