Grey with mahogany furniture

I have a large dining room to decorate. It has mahogany antique furniture but I would like a modern look. I like soft, warm grey but I would like to try something other than Farrow and Ball Skimming Stone and Elephants Breath. Thank you. Janet

Hi, thank you for your advice. I have waxed the furniture and just need to buy a bufferer as its a light wax and its taking a while to get the brown away, but I brought a teal throw and it looks so much more better.

Thank you all for your input. I need to perfect the art of closing one eye to block out other colours! I was not good at this! I think you need bigger sample cards than I used. I couldn't paint on the wall as there's currently wallpaper there. My local F&B stockist suggested Shaded White which is a nice, "safe" neutral I think and as the room is quite dark, it seems to work better than the greyer shades I was trying. I guess sometimes what you want is different from what will actually work best and Shaded White seems a good compromise. I'm delighted to have got input from you and I'll post some pictures later of items I'm considering using in the room in the hope of some more advice.

Out of all the rugs (even though I like the first one in pattern) I think the second one will be good as it will lift the floor but still have a neutral pattern so you can change colours in accessories when you want to. Rugs are expensive so unless you are set on a specific colour theme (like the blue rug or the yellow geometric one) then the second option - or similar, will be easier to move around and take with you. Similarly, something else in a multicoloured tone or with a heavier neutral colour pattern would also work. Down to your colour preferences really?
