Comments (23)Hi i am happy you like my little garden retreat, you are right it is nice to add your own touch to your garden and not to be to regimental, it gives you a great satisfaction when you sit back in your garden lounger and think i created that, it also works out a lot cheaper, just adding bits at a time, and if a plant is not working for you, you can dig it out and move it knowing that you have not paid someone a fortune to put them in, i am not saying professional help is not needed as i had to get someone in to do my flag stones but it was someone i knew so that worked out cheaper and my brother did the decking at both side of my garden, he is not a professional he just likes DIY don't tell him but i think he is pretty good at it lol.. it cost me the price of the wood and 2 cans of beer,( i was given a couple or quotes of £450 for a 10ft x 7ft deck and £399 for a 7ft x 6ft deck,) i did paint it big mistake on my part as with being south facing it just peeled off with the heat but is nearly all off now so i will just power wash it once a year and give it an oil treatment, when you get your garden done send us a pic i for one would love to see your project,...See MoreFront Garden Design
Comments (8)Hi there, my first thought is that it needs a central feature. A big showy plant/tree/shrub that will be the main focus. Depends what you like and if there's any particular style you're going for but here's a few suggestions: Cherry blossom tree New Zealand flax Pampas grass Acer Palmatum (Japanese maple, 'Koto no Ito' is a particularly nice variety) Dare I say it, a monkey puzzle tree, although slow growing can get very big. Plenty of evergreen conifers, yews and junipers to choose from just check on eventual height and spread. Or for a more cottage style you can't beat good old fashioned roses....See MoreNeed a Garden Designer and Landscape Gardener for a garden re-design
Comments (9)Hi Ellie, ok I will edit it more as it should read we want all the shrubs and trees removed which is a tall feat when your not qualified I would guess. Also with the council not available to remove garden waste, we already have a lot piling up with the compost awaiting the date for when we can remove it. Our garden already has fence all the way around, however it needs updating as it has broken it a lot of places....See MoreDesign help - 1960s Chalet bungalow project
Comments (4)The front gable built by others seems to really suit this house and clearly a precedent has been set so planning shouldn’t be a problem. But currently the upstairs isn’t big enough for what you are planning so you have to add to the downstairs as well…. I suspect the property will increase in size substantially which throws up problems of: is there enough budget? Will the garage be in the way of a rear extension? Given the new square footage will any of the old rooms (such as the living room) be undersized? You might look at the public access part of the planning portal on your local Borough Councils website. You should be able to look up neighbours planning applications and gain inspiration from their plans. You might also consider if moving the stairs or building a garage on the side driveway helps achieve a better layout and garden....See MoreAmanda Broughton Garden Design
