Walls colour vs conjugal harmony
Comments (20)Thank you all for your suggestions! Lots to consider... Special thanks to Celerygirl and Carolina for the mock-ups. I have to say, that creme rug changes the whole feel of the room... AS, Colourhappy and Celerygirl, I have some 3 different greys left from other jobs; I think I'm going to paint some lining paper and put it against the fireplace, units, windows, etc and see what it looks like. I'm also thinking of the smokey purple we have in the bedroom, that could be an alternative. Also, I'll have to buy some of that hue Jonathan suggested (it's quite intriguing). Jen P and Carolina, maybe I could keep the beige and change the accessories... I ordered a new frame with a proper mount for Chris Ofili's painting and might put it back above the fireplace. Najeebah, I know I need to cull the accessories, we have too many all over the house and I don't know where to place them any more. But I love most of them and find it hard to think about letting some go... Hubby almost sank in the middle of the Bristol channel today and had to abandon the race, so I thought bringing up wall colours tonight would not help my cause. See, I can be sensible... and he says I'm not sympathetic to his sailing problems... :)) Thank you so much for your help again, I'll let you know the next step as soon as we decide what to do. Good night all!...See MoreDo we need to seal our sandstone patio?
Comments (10)I've never noticed one way or another about stains as such - that said, we're not that bothered about it looking pristine, as we're quite rural and we live in a Cotswold stone former farmhouse with a country garden, so it's more a case of function over appearance for us. But we've never had anything that we've noticed as a horrific mark though. Consequently, I've just sent the OH to do a test on a spare piece of paving, with some neat Ribena, we left it about 20 minutes or so and then rinsed it off and yes indeed it did leave a faint stain, so if you're concerned about marks and stains then it's probably best to get it sealed....See MoreDo we need an architect or designer (or both)?
Comments (2)First things first - you need to ensure you will get freeholder permission to extend. And consider the budget. Lots of builders have the contacts you will need such as structural engineer and architects technicians to draw plans. If you only want creative input then designers, concept planners, architects are all possible- you might try the Houzz community too by posting plans here...See MoreDo we need fire door between kitchen
Comments (7)I am not an expert but I believe you do not need a fire door on the kitchen if the house is two storeys, only if 3 or 4 storeys. So beware if there is a chance of a loft conversion at some point. Otherwise you are ok. I believe fire doors do not need self closers any more. I’m not sure if you could have a cat flap in a fire door, I can’t see how it would still be fireproof with a hole in it. But hopefully these things are not an issue for you anyway given 2 storeys. I think you would want some sort of door there to stop kitchen noise and smells from pervading the rest of the house, but it’s personal choice. Our kitchen door lives open most of the time but we do shut it eg if cooking fish or curry or if we have people over and kids are sleeping upstairs, or if one of us has got up earlier and starts banging pans and plates and the other is still sleeping......See MoreA B
