need help for bedroom wall light
Comments (8)Does it supply sufficient light for reading, if indeed you plan to use it for reading? I like the looks of it but please check out how much light it provides if you want to read in bed. Thanks for the explanation of a bed valance. In the US we usually refer to it as a duster or bed skirt....See MoreHelp finding large block light to hang on exposed brick wall
Comments (5)The Heals one is just too neon-y. I bought a blue one, from outside it looks like we live in an aquarium or an UFO is landing. Inside, hurts the eyes after a few minutes. I guess it's fine for a large room, not an entrance hall. I didn't buy the Florence Jaffarain, as they are listed as pendants - I need something to plug in - we placed a light switch especially for that plug, so we can turn a lamp on from the switch when we come in. I could get an electrician to convert it, but I need time to recover after the experience with the Heals light. :))...See MoreDo I keep the top sanded and wax it or paint it white?
Comments (12)Sorry, mad week. If you haven't already sussed this then a couple of options to try are: apply a coat of chalk paint and wipe with a damp cloth before it's totally dry, lightly sand and seal. Can obviously play around until get strength (or not) of colour you want. Or you can dilute chalk paint and apply in thin layers leaving to dry (20 mins or so) between coats until right level of white achieved. A tester pot should be enough for either of these. Another option is to use a lime wax which does the same thing but the finish (wax!) is 'built in' so need to let completely dry before using Matt varnish. Have fun...See MoreHelp with colours, dark hallway.
Comments (4)As a rule of thumb use richer or warmer colour on shaded surfaces because if you go for white or light colours in shadow they always look grey. Save white for anywhere day light hits. For your downstairs hall what about paints from Farrow and Ball: Upstairs the hall looks narrow but even so, adding details will help - wall lights, mirrors etc. I think this area needs more elaboration. Maybe this is a good place for your wallpaper which just might be too much with the tiles downstairs? A picture rail would be appropriate here and be sure to choose a colour for the woodwork that suits, the default white might not. Jane...See MoreCarolina
