The fire sits on the hearth, floor or other frame that you've built out so that you can put the 3 sided fire on it. This bears the weight. Then you build the frame up over the fire with more timber ( the same as if you were building a stud wal )l, this is what the plaster board attaches to. You can build the bottom out of whatever you like as long as there's a timber frame in there somewhere. You can clad with whatever you like as long as it's heat retardent.It's the Timber framing behind all of this that keeps the 'false Chimney' up, get a carpenter on the job!

Hello Kelly To help visually balance a mirror with the fireplace you have quite a few options. We thought we would start you off on a three: A. Do three individual mirrors running on the side of the fireplace and on top all the way to the ceiling: Maybe with a thin decorative frame. B. Opt for a continous mirror all the way around, perhaps in a french antiqued effect and in a block pattern. C. Create a mantle piece to break to the two areas visually, and perhaps opt for a decorative stone / marble fireplace surround: Hope this helps give you some ideas! Best, The Siblingz

Jeepers, that is in quite a state. Have you had a full survey done to find out what structural issues there might be? Certainly looks damp etc. If it is sound structurally, you could figure out a cost per room, but it looks like you’d be stripping it back to the rafters and even replacing all the floorboards of every room. Would you make your money back?
