The tree is a Pagoda Dogwood (Cornus alternifolia). They can be grown as a single stem or clumped specimen. Birds love the July berries.

They are very prolific growers! That nice sculpted form would have taken some work.

Morning Jacky, I am a keen gardener with an RHS course behind me and I was taught that looking for trees with 3 seasons of interest for a garden is always a good idea ie blossom in spring, pretty foliage in summer and autumn fruit. Something like Amelanchier lamarckii which gets to 10m high and 12m wide has pretty dainty blossom in spring delicate bronze foliage in summer and red orange leaves in autumn. The birds also love the purple black fruits which follow. Or a Malus 'John Downie' or Malus Floribunda both vigorous crab apple trees with a long season of interest. I would probably not go for the Tuscan pillar conifers because they will act as pointers drawing your eye to the houses you are trying to screen. Birch (Betula Utilis var Jacquemontii are beautiful however they will reach 15m or possibly consider weeping birch Betula Pendula "Youngii' which makes a dome shape and gets to 8m high and 10m wide. Perhaps have a look at the RHS website which is very helpful.

We have a fake tree that my husband bought for £20 in the Woolworths closing down sale over a decade ago when our real one shed 90% of its needles within 24 hours of us buying it. This tree has seen us through 2 children and 3 cats; only one of which climbed it as a kitten. It’s thinning and requires lots of fluffing and padding out each year but we love it and it’s covered in ornaments from every year and everywhere.

It's a really nice room, I just think you may have a bit too much 'stuff' in it. An idea would be to remove all the 'stuff' and just be left with the furniture. Do all the pieces have room to breathe in the space? If not, remove some. Once you are happy about the space between them, take a look at your stuff and introduce bits back one, or a group of three at a time. Then see if the breathing space is still there. As an example, the reading chair is pushed too far back into the corner and is crowded by the other stuff you have around it. If you need the speaker, put the 2 unit bookcase on top of the speaker to move the speaker left, remove the decorative lamp from beside the fireplace totally and pull the chair forward. This may give it room to 'breathe'. Get a standard lamp to pop behind the chair for lighting. Remove the little table too. Use the top of the bookshelf for a couple of smaller books. Your mantle is lovely above your fire but is again too crowded in my view. Lovely things but too many of them. Remove either the grey lamp or the vase with twigs. Remove either the pic or the flat bowl. Then have either (from the left): twig vase, candle holder, picture, candle holder, grey vase. Or grey lamp, candle holder, flat bowl, candle holder, grey vase. If you see what I mean. Great idea from Sonia too. Swap the lamp behind the chair for the standing lamp. Put the lamp from behind the chair on you lovely sideboard. That then gives that piece room around it too. Doggie box can then be centered under those pics as well. Lovely doggie too :)

Thank You all! This is just simply gorgeous!!! I am looking into getting one to flank my new Custom Shed. I planted a Cloud Nine Dogwood last year but it hasn't bloomed yet. I think this would work nicely in the yard with it.
