How can I modernise this bathroom ? Please help!

We have just bought a house and have decided this bathroom will have to hold off on being refurbished until after we get married this year.

The tiles are a very ugly version of the whole marble phase in at the moment.

I was just wondering what I can do to modernish this room? Im going to definitely get a more glam mirror and decor etc

But can anyone advise on wether I should paint the walls a light grey or what should I do ? any tips much appreciated and any photos or ideas please send on

too grannyish for me at the moment i couldnt look at it , if i had my way id rip it all out

Hello Laura Jane,

A coat of paint will definitely freshen up the space a little for when you're ready to do a complete renovation of your bathroom. Maybe a simple soft white or a light greyish blue.

Changing your blinds and adding display towels in a contrasting colour can add a touch of your own personality to the space. Maybe even splashing out a little for a nice mirror and wall light could really help modernise the space.

I would say paint the walls in a light grey, and replace the blind, mirror and accessories (toilet roll holder/towel rail etc) Also change the toilet seat.

I don’t think it’s too bad, once you’ve cleared out the lovely artificial flowers!

Well at least grey is very fashionable now, if you have to work with a coloured suite, grey is better than most. Are you talking about changing tiles? If it needs brightening stick with white for flooring and wall tiles but you could paint the walls a yellow perhaps and put in a funky grey shower curtain. Yellow and grey are very popular at the moment.

I like to hide things away so I would take out the existing cabinet and buy a much taller one or two stacked one above the other to sit better in the space (and perhaps get a less wide cabinet so it doesn't have to be pushed right into the corner and the doors are a little smaller). Any gap at the bottom or side you should add a pile of towels that you buy just for display purposes. Bath panel- the tongue and groove route will work but I think there are loads of inexpensive ready made bath panels online. Flooring choice- Personally I like this type of white tile warmed up with wood to avoid it looking too clinical. I would be looking to find a wood style with a redness to it to tone and then use this for the floor, and one or two other things such as a blind or the cabinet. Paint for me a white paint will be too clinical and you need to find a deeper colour to frame the whiteness of the sanitary ware and tiles. I like grey but you have to choose the right one for your tiles.

Thanks so much to everyone who has commented with your great ideas. I think I now have my heart set on the Hague blue (I was looking at ‘midnight blue’ ideas before my post and this colour I just love so thanks for this idea!). I also definitely agree I need a new bath panel so have been looking at the marine ply online and think it’s a great idea to paint this the Hague blue too. I like the idea of a small shower caddy for our main shower products and make room in our current storage unit for other items. I have also thought storing the bath toys in the children’s room until needed and then store away again. Which colour towels and bath mat should I get to match this idea? Grey? Also will replace with some new pictures to hang if anyone has any good recommendations?

Well, if you like one image, it's good. Take the inspiration from the image that you liked and start building the scheme for your self. The search engine will give you the same and similar results, so to break the algorithm, you need to put different searches. Decide what you need in the bathroom, what is your budget, how much light do you have. Start collecting items that you like and out them together into a board. What colour your like, what tile, shape of the bath, vanity, lights, mirror etc

This question is a few months old, but anyway, it’s a rather nice bathroom, much nicer than mine when I moved in! I think a nice deep grey on the walls that aren’t tiled will help bring it up to date. And plants, plants are always good whether it’s a small cactus or a large palm. Artwork also good in a bathroom.

Definitely painting the walls in bold colour would make a big difference. If you found a bath panel in a colour like graphite grey i think that would go really well and possibly change the vanity unit to add some storage. A nice large mirror would look lovely too.

I really don't think you need to do anything to drastic the bathroom looks fresh and clean anyway you just want to add your own touch to it.
