How many panels needed to heat water for a family of two in a 1,600 sq ft duplex ???

Either one or two depending on the shape of the roof space and how you like the look of the many options we have in panel type. I have a flat roof so any panels will be hidden from street view more or less ... I'll try and call you next week .....

sianember - Love the mirrors! They bring back happy memories. I have a business 'upcycling' furniture - although I've been doing it for over 20 years now and recycling was hardly a thing, let alone upcycling, in those days :D - but I started out selling mirrors on Greenwich market. A friend and I would find old mirrors in junk shops (this was in the halcyon days when every high street had at least one, sadly they are few and far between now) and we would 'pimp' them and sell them. We were particularly fond of using shells as they were free, meant we got to spend a day at the seaside and we could use the children to collect them!

Hi Gabby, Well after a bit of research and speaking to my electrician re the infra red panels, it was decided to give them a miss. However, that then meant that we had not planned for UF heating so we ended up having to have high output rads on what few walls we had left! Bit of a pain really. We have pipes going to the island if we ever want plinth heaters (although they are a bit noisy as operate using fans - even for the plumbed in ones!) to give us more heat in the middle of the room. To be honest, the rooms are quite warm during the winter days when the sun is out so we only have to worry about evenings and cold winter where our log burner will be on anyway. If we could go back, we would have had wet UF heating put in the new extension. Wouldn’t bother with electric as too expensive and cheaper just to have rads put in

Sara, the secret is to make sure that you have as detailed a specification as possible listing all materials that you are expecting your builder to buy for you. It is also desirable that you list the quantities and state that they are to include any wastage. An example of a potential pit fall is the inclusion of the finished floor underneath all kitchen base units. Also include the quantities of the light fittings, electrical power points, etc., etc. Ideally you will want them to give you unit rates but this depends upon the quality of the builders that you are dealing with. We provide our Clients with very detailed specifications with line items for all materials works and FF&E items (furniture, fixtures & equipment) Once you have the quotes back from your builders you will be able to easily compare them and then can negotiate with your favoured choice. I would also strongly advice that you get your builder to sign a JCT contract with the specification attached and a duration for the works included. Best of luck with you project!

I know nothing about Nest systems but why do you have your heating on all the time? Is someone home all day? Much better to have it on a timer, eg heating comes on before you get up, then switches off before you leave for work then let it come on just before you come home, then switch off at bedtime. I would also not heated unused rooms/bedrooms by using individual radiator thermostats.
