How to finish this room?
Comments (146)Having looked through this post, I have to say I love the way that this project has progressed so far. The dark purpleyblue used in your lights would be lovely for a splash of color perhaps paired with a softer pale blue. Some great pillows that would go in this way include a soft of aubergine and eggplant shade. (As demonstrated by the drape examples here). Good luck I look forward to seeing where your project takes you next as it looks a lovely peaceful room. :)...See MoreHow to paint cane bed
Comments (80)Hello Minnie, There will be the hallway and some in the bedroom. Yes gee whizz, I prefer to design than actually do in this case. Painting I find enjoyable but papering definitely not so much. Your sons room sounds quite a difficulty so gr8 for you that you managed, and I can definitely see how you would feel a sense of achievement. I do feel quite pleased with how it all ties in. I also just used a paint brush to brush it all and no plumb line.. Normal scissors and a sense of urgency.. Yes the size was quite a dramatic feeling. It's not a small room I don't think, and it's just as it is shot wise but the dark on dark made the whole thing feel larger and more elegant. The paper is Oreste Carbon by Zoffany. Thank you yes the tapes on the frames, I do like a mix of old and new and I use my picture rails so I thought it a good way of showing. Ah the lamp .. It's broken in 3 places and held together with glue and plumbing seals.. It was from Graham and Green but over 10 years ago. Never seen anything like it since, not sure if somewhere like eBay would have something similar.. and it's rather tricky on uneven boards. I have a large marble weight that sits on its base as the counter balance doesn't really allow for anything but the most even of flooring. Got a few flowers from Oka and thank you for telling me, I did look in my emails to find code. Waiting for a payment for a day from October so should not have really. It's one of those things where you have to buy a few at a time for several months till you can achieve a really fantastic display. Yes Bob has her ways but so gorgeous I try to give her things and the door mat is a good one too but somehow... Like the sound of the book that may have to go on my list.. Love the veggie lunch.. I am down to chicken occasionally and fish regularly. will be looking for a recipe for the stained glass biscuits.. :))...See MoreDecorating the living room!

Comments (26)Thanks to all those persevering with me, or even just stopping by to see what's happening. I should probably confess that I don't intend to start anything until the New Year, except maybe some wallpaper stripping during the Christmas holiday, so that still leaves me 4 full months to 'perfect' any ideas that come my way. I'm also finding Floorplanner a little addictive. Far more entertaining for me than any of these premium computer games. If only enthusiasm and creativity came in equal measures. Thank you for those layout images Carolina. They have helped a little, if negatively. Seeing the vestibule size & shape, along with the way it changes the living room make me inclined to leave it as it currently is. Not only smaller, but it has, at least to me, a better look & feel. Another thought I had is that I'm unlikely to put any shelving in the larger alcove. I don't really have anything I could use shelves that size for. The small alcove would be ideal for some books & DVDs, but for the few I still have it would be enough. Plants wouldn't be an option either as the corner doesn't really get enough natural light. I'm still toying with the idea of having my computer desk in the smaller alcove. the main problem here is the gas & electric meters in the cupboard below. So far I'm working on two possible solutions, but if anyone has any thoughts on how, or even if I should do it, feel free to share them. My first idea was to have a desk (style to be decided) with the monitors on. I could have a pull out shelf underneath for the keyboard, similar to the one I have now. The meters would be housed in a small cupboard, though not much smaller than the current one, with the computer accessories on top of it. The second idea, which started from the earlier suggestion from Jenny, would be to just have a larger cupboard hiding most of it when not in use, and I just open the cupboard doors when using it. The second option is much better for legroom as, apart from the meters, there's plenty of space between them....See Morebombel1972
