Is Magnolia paint bland or beautiful?
Comments (96)@colourhappy I totally agree. Like everyone else I can’t help being influenced by trends but I really try to choose things that are not too ‘of the moment’. Like those enormous wall clocks someone else mentioned. They look fab but they are definitely a trend that will define this period. Eventually there will be a lot of them in landfill. Our trusty magnolia paint saw us through 10 years of family life in our old house with 3 young children. It was super easy to slap a bit more on if it ever got dirty - who am I kidding, I mean WHEN it got dirty. It didn’t clash with the wood effect floors which I think many of the currently popular grey or yellow colours would have. I suppose I’m also lucky that I’ve not spent much time as a renter so I don’t have the frustration of having magnolia forced on me. I don’t remember it being a thing in the 80s either. I DO remember the Dulux ‘hints’ range from then though: Apple white, orchid white etc. My Mum loved those....See MoreWould charcoal grey floor tiles be too much?
Comments (8)If I'm honest I much prefer the wood. It's has creamy tones which work with the units and wood always adds warmth so I'd opt for another wood effect...See MoreRoom too bland??
Comments (22)Thanks again for your comments. I've finally got it how I like it thanks to everyone's help! I realised I was getting away from the style I really like; comfy and relaxed. Everyone's comments and opinions have really helped. By filling out the shelf, your eye is taken off the bare walls either side. The bed in white is lighter, fresher and less formal. The curtains raised off the floor makes the room feel more spacious somehow. The bouquet on the right hand side of the shelf is my silk wedding bouquet and my pearl tiara is up there too, which is nice because before they were stuffed in a cupboard :-) So now, white Venetian blind on order, white duvet and pillows to order and one more blue hydrangea for the window sill :-) Thanks again for all your feedback and help!!...See Morevery bland living room
Comments (12)Hi You currently have a palette of three colours: White - walls, woodwork and ceiling Grey - sofa and artwork Natural Wood/Mustard - flooring and cushions Three colours is good, any more and it can look a little messy but what you need to add, to make them work is texture! All your textures are currently the same, smooth, which is why it looks a little lifeless. A rug is a must to add in some texture, pattern and variation. You can stick to your current colour palette, if you wish, or use it to bring in some new colours and then change out the existing accessories to make it all more cohesive. Height is also something that needs to be added. The book case, if tall, will help. As Ebony45 noted, house plants are a great way to add colour, texture and height, with the added bonus of natural air filtration within your home. Inject some of your colour palette into the art work and curtains as well, rather than all greys and sliver. This will liven up the room and give it more interest too. Trying pulling the furniture away from the walls a bit, this will give an illusion of space rather than everything pushed back as if it's crammed into the room. Also, consider adding a coffee table which will help to break up the space, give interest and can be used to display accessories, again to give variation. Although, it looks like you have young children so this may not be practical! Take time to consider whether removing the fireplace completely is the right thing to do. A room needs a focal point that is not the television. Personally I would consider replacing it rather than removing it. Of course be considerate to the age of you property when choosing a new one. Hope this helps! Sarah...See MoreJuliet Docherty
