Bathrooms Design Dilemma

Second shower room, should I add in a wc?

Instead of an en-suite I want to add a thin shower room upstairs. The waste pipe for a toilet would mean extra expense, but would it be better to loose the toilet and just have a luxury shower and sink?

If it will be for guests, or people getting ready in the morning then surely it needs a toilet?

Hello, Whichever room you consider updating with a small shower room, here are some images for your inspiration. The one on the first image is tiny but it works well. The design of it is clean and tidy with plenty of light. You could also go for a Wetroom if you wish to minimise even more the usage of space. A vertical split would allow for a toilet and sink only, with a huge BUT: The minimum width of 78cm plus wall thickness (10 in drawing) would narrow the entry even more. Can't even keep the door, as it simply wouldn't open. And with the 60cm wall in the top left, you'll have 80cm in front of the washing machine (assuming it could go at 60cm deep, which it often doesn't). A horizontal split would allow for a reasonably sized shower room, plus a small utility area. Again the 60cm wall bit. So question would be: Could that bit of wall be cut open a bit more? The cupboard is still cupboard, as 70cm is not wide enough for a toilet. Vacuum might like it there though. ;)

An upstairs bathroom! My house is also tiny, and although I have a garden there’s a lane between that and the back of the house, so no chance to extend. But an upstairs bathroom would also allow me to convert the downstairs bathroom into a shower room with utility: such luxury. I’ve no plans to move though - what the house lacks in upstairs washing facilities, it more than makes up for with fabulous views :-)

Hi Jason! Personnally I wouldn't block it, I think that it would be a waste of money. Even if it doesn't bring enough light from the outside currently, it will still help with air circulation. And you don't even need tons of natural light in your bathroom to create a fabulous space ;) I previously designed a bathroom that doesn't even have a window. By modifying the lighting and playing with some colours it really changed the perception of the space! It depends on how many bedrooms you have. Ideally you have at least one WC on each floor and at least two upstairs WCs if you have 4 bedrooms and at least 3 WCs for 6 bedrooms.

What other bathrooms are upstairs?

I wouldn't have an ensuite if it didn't have a loo, pretty pointless I would think.
