I have two to do more, but i've had enough for today, practically all my wall done, i havent taken a picture yet because its a mess on my table and i cant be arsed to tidy up. I have a banging headache from this paint and the white spirit used to clean, have turned off the music and just need to sit in a quiet room for now.... lol I will post a picture when it is tidy and have finished my second frame! Might do it later, or leave it for another night...

Alas there are several- one early on in married life, my first meal for mother in law and sister in law and husband, I put 2 oz of salt in fruit flan for dessert, instead of 2 oz of sugar! Everyone was very polite and said nothing until I did, then they all agreed it was awful and we had cheese and biscuits and chocolates instead. When cooking for other relatives of my husbands, a bit of metal evidently fell off the hand whisk into the dessert and, (fortunately) I got the biggest piece in a mouth fall, breaking a tooth off completely! We once appeared at a new neighbors for a meal a week early, dressed to the nines with a bottle of wine, a week early (they looked utterly confused but invited us in and we had a takeaway instead amid much laughter). Likewise, we went to a work colleague of my husbands, and his wife with the usual bottle of wine etc. Unfortunately they turned out to be deeply religious, totally against alcohol of any sort and spent the entire evening trying to convert us from our heathen life and preaching hell fire at us.

Me again! Can we also have a reader's how to section. Such as a designer showing in pictures how to stage a sideboard with bijouterie depending on style, or how to style a bedroom with accents, or even articles on how to achieve X,Y,Z on a budget (I'm sure Houzzer's will have an idea - maybe this could be a section in itself?) Articles on colour or pattern matching etc would appeal vastly methinks. Even simple things that can easily be found on an internet search such as how to prep bannisters for painting would give a more magazine feel. Also a regional links page for cateogries. These could accompany articles. For eg. an article on prepping with images and step by step along with a list of Houzz recommended companies regionally who could undertake the work or fix a botched job! Topics I would be interested in include: How to add value to your home, how to maximise light, how to achieve a professional finish decorating; interior design ideas; how to change the facade of a property; flowers for the garen, door way, flowers for shaded areas, climbers for shaded areas, scented plants, how to ensure colour in the garden all year round etc. Decorating/furnishing ideas to create optical illusions to create size/light etc. Thanks for asking. I love this site and literlly spend hours getting lost on it with a cup of coffee :-)

Tanks all so much for these amazing ideas!! I think once I have implemented these the overall look will work - I just need to picture the final result as I do each bit separately. @south Wales - I had considered grass but the front of the house is covered by a huge oak tree canopy in the summer, the tree would probably dry everything out. It blocks most of the direct sunlight out completely. Do you think grass is still achievable? @suesykes - yours looks amazing, is that a rhododendron I can spot? @michaeldbutler - I used an iPad app called color effects @sorayasohal - thanks for your great ideas, I am very keen to use a couple of potted plants in front of the pillars. I just need to make sure they don't get stolen! @arthur road - many thanks for this excellent list, I hadn't really considered using a variety of different plants as the bed is small, but it's a great idea! @ensign - I wanted to use a taller tree each side of the pillars but the drive is on a slope and it might look a bit lopsided. I wonder if there is a way I could correct this by digging out and leveling under each pot or would this look weird? @amanda hunter - it's a great tip looking at local house styles! Mine is quite modern (1996) and is situation in a lovely village with quite a lot of older style houses with authentic wood doors etc. sadly this is a composite door and I added this as the wood door which was on the house was in a terrible state, so my options are limited to having it sprayed a suitable color. So far I think I will: 1) add flagstone path 2) lower globe buxus type pots in front of each pillar 3) paint door (still wanted red) 4) use some of the plants recommended here and go to my local garden centre. The porch also has built in flower beds flanking the steps so once flowers are in there it will look good. The darkness of the north facing house sheltered by a large oak tree is an issue for me, the house looks great but looks dark and gloomy, hence I don't want to have a door that looks too dark and dull, unless it was black. The company who will be spraying the door can do all farrow and ball colors, so I am going to check out some more heritage colors as per Laura and other suggestions. I'm going to get some blue and red samples this week!!
