help with tiling in the bathroom pretty please
Can't seem to find my old en-suite post but I'm at the point where I can't find the exact tiles I wanted or the walnut vanity that's narrow enough for the wall it has to go on. So frustrated, I thought I would ask advice on the tiles because I might have to change my plans for it.
Really, I wanted a dark grey marble and adding in some warm wood in the form of a vanity shelf/drawer but it can't be any deeper than 400mm if it's 600wide or 350 if it's a bit longer otherwise it will obstruct the entrance.
I've found some alternative tiles that are ok - not what I wanted but nice enough, but they are much lighter mid grey. I had planned on using them on the floor and within the shower cubicle and then only tiling above the sink area. (see the single tile sample attached)
However, we have a wall hung wc and I've been told I have to now tile that - so I'm not sure if I should use the same tiles or go for a plain darker grey on the WC wall and around the lower sink walls instead?? There is loads of light in the room so not worried about it being too dark as I like some drama. The top of the walls will be white anyway to match the shower tray and wc.
What do you guys think? I still have so many things I need to buy for the room that the plumber needs to finish off and I thought I had a lot longer time to sort them out so I'm a bit stressed by it all.
The nice images of the finished bathrooms are Houzz photos and the sort of look I like.
The pic with the all grey marble bathroom is the tile I'm planning on using for the floor/shower. Looks a bit darker than their image which is wishy washy.
Open to suggestions after that! ie Wood effect tiles on the wc walls and sink wall and get a grey or white vanity instead? that would add some warmth. Or ...
Have included the layout of our room except the door is in the centre now and it's a straight wall, not angled!

Comments (10)Hi Jane What a shame, no professional tiler would usually stick a trim over the top of the finished tiles. A good tiler should be able to mitre the edges of the tiles to create a seamless look. An alternative would be to overlap one tile over the other and polish the edge smooth but this only really looks good if the tile is a full colour bodied porcelain (same colour all the way through). As you can see from the pictures a mitred corner is by far a more superior finish that using trim. At the end of the day if he hasn't done what you asked him to do he was either being very lazy or can't achieve the finish required but if you aren't happy you should certainly ask for it to be changed, it's YOUR bathroom! Comments (3)Thanks for the advice Carolina and the example :) I had thought about tiling up to the 120cm mark the whole way round previously. At the time I was thinking about going with a plain white tile so that I could change the colour if I wanted to over time. Once I found the stone effect tile, I hadn't really reconsidered that as an option. I'm struggling to leave any walls completely free as I do want to tile anywhere that could get properly wet with kids around... I should have said in my original post that I'm putting quite a large mirror behind the sink unit and the sink unit will be behind the door when you walk in. I have mosaic behind the sink in the ensuite and really like the style but not sure if I'd get the benefit of the mosaic behind the sink in this room given the size of the unit and the mirror. I'll probably look to introduce some wooden accessories, a large print to the right of the window to balance out the off centre window and (if I don't kill it), some large leafy plants (just like your example) so that in itself might add some interest!!...See MoreHelp with small bathroom please
Comments (16)Nessaj have you thought about the style, an overall look, of your new bathroom? From our experience that impacts the design very much. For example, if you’d like to have a more traditional, victorian style, than a big freestanding slipper bath would be the focal point and everything else would have to be designed around it. And on the other hand, if you like a more contemporary feel, then a big wet room enclosure form wall to wall would be the main feature. And all of that dictates the arrangement on the floorplan. Comments (15)Minnie101 I love all these ideas.. I’m trying to work with the room. as you walk into the room, the shower area isn’t visible, it’s behind the door. It’s like an unexpected surprise as it’s built over the stair. What is visible will be the wall with all the bathroom fittings on. Ive gone over ideas of having the floor under the bath and to the opposite wall the same colour as the wall behind it.. when I was going for Showerwall panel. Doing this in these tiles is certainly an option... then maybe the rest of the floor in the light terracotta. I could do with it all pu on an app to see it....See MoreTani H-S

5 years agoI feel your pain on a small unit! I looked and looked but although available I just didn’t like the look of them, sort of stumpy summed it up for me, as I’ve sad, 10cm bit of raw walnut and get a bracket made for it and your sorted!

That looks like the sink I’ve just bookmarked from this company - it’s only 33.5cm deep
