Hall radiators in Anthracite or white?
Comments (16)Thank you again for all these thoughts. The windows used to have Roman blinds with a pair of dress curtains framing the door. I think we'll probably do the same again. As to the other wall for a rad, certainly something to think about. At the moment it's designated has having a console table as its where the phone/broadband services are. The wall above will have a wall light, mirror and the central heating stat. It's the only wall for a table. I do like the grey/pale gold colour scheme with a bit of teal. We also need to recarpet, recurtain and decorate the dining room so I'm thinking about running the same carpet as the hall into the dining room and dialling up the furnishings in the dining room too echo the hall colour scheme. We've got a very traditional light fitting in there and Victorian-style mahogany furniture which can't be changed but could be reupholstered. The jury is still out on the rads I'm afraid. I agree it would look very busy on that wall. Oddly, although it's the front door of the house it's rarely used as 99% of visitors come in the side door of the house into the utility room. What's that all about?...See MoreWhite or Anthracite Grey Window/Bifold Door on Extension???
Comments (17)Sliding doors are proving very popular at the moment as they can stack to one side and not protrude into the garden space and be easier to move than full set of bi-folds so that would an approximate opening of about 4m with 3 x 1.250m (plus frame ) panel of glass that would all stack in parallel inline. Or you could try panoramic doors they are more versatile as they are detachable from each other and give you more options for you layout at the finish. There a tutorial on you tube ? Do you have building control on these works as I am finding that architects are making us use a lot more steel as in a goal post design for stability, depending on how wide you want to go with the opening?...See MoreWhite or anthracite - avoiding scratches
Comments (24)Hi Hannah, Thank you. Yes, the more we look into this the more we realise that the scratches must have been made during fitting or transporting. We aren't very happy about it. We have also been looking at other aluminium doors for wear and have noticed no scratches even with high use, as per your showroom ones. I have also spoken to the manufacturer who agrees. It's such a shame we have had this problem. Strangely the somehow the screw ended up in the key when I found it on our patio (where the fitter had dropped it), I don't know why I didn't take it out but I put that in the window after I found the scratches. I'm not sure we have the time to look into our options now and we want the frame to match up to the loft window. The fitter tried to cover a scratch I had seen when he was there, with a paint pen but it just looks like a kid has drawn on it. Out of interested, why have you suggested anthracite? I am still inclined to go with white for a more classic look (and to stop the room closing in with the door frames?) but I'm worried about fading to yellow. Unless I can find a way to prevent this but is there a practical reason why anthracite is better? thank you...See MoreAnthracite grey upvc french doors or white?
Comments (9)Yes, if you just wish to freshen up your windows and they are in good order, painting them makes good use of what you have. If the supplier is reputable with a good guarantee on the product you will be covered against warping and big draughts. I believe that slight ventilation is usually required to avoid condensation. Our timber windows are around 140 years old and still going strong with no warping. I do urge people to consider the health benefits for the family - clean air in your home. In the long run, with timber windows last at least 6 times the age the value for money of timber which outweighs the cost of painting within one lifetime alone. Also timber will not be adding to landfill or use as much energy to create. Finally the character and quality of finish is much different. Here is a comparison for you. According to this timber costs less too. https://www.wwf.org.uk/sites/default/files/2017-06/windows_0305.pdf Hope that helps in time! Thank you for sharing and we hope to see some photos!
