Gap between gas hob and integrated extractor?

Saw this pic.

A bit of googling suggest minimum distance of 750mm but this pic seems to show a smaller gap than that?

Is it different also if it was a gas range hob/oven? Thanks

The architect of this project already answered that exact question:

Robert Rhodes Architecture + Interiors: "Short answer: This was done before the Gas Safe "hot zone" regs changed. Long answer: UK building regs prescribe all sorts of silly things. It's up to us to challenge the regs. We are the architects here - we need to speak up if something is ridiculous or not fit for purpose. Otherwise we'll end up with horrible places designed by bureaucrats and insurance adjusters."

It’s not different if it were a gas Cooker /Range. Stay safe - adhere to the Gas Safe guidelines, so that your build can be signed off as safe. Non signed off homes might have problems when trying to sell if their builds haven’t been signed off as safe.

I have a downdraft in my peninsula and don't feel that it spoils it. The only thing it spoils is the space under the hob. Less space for pans. But I did not want anything hanging above the peninsula, it's under a 4.5 meter high pitched roof. But you don't see it at all. And it works fine. Depends on whether you'll be having a gas hob or an induction, but if you have an induction, the downdraft doesn't have to come up above the island when in use. If you're cooking on gas, you'd have to have one that comes up. But even then, when not in use, you will hardly see it's there. Mine looks similar to this and yes, you can really see the damp from cooking going down like that. Having said that, I do like the model you picked out, haven't looked at the specifications though. It's worth comparing noise levels and 'suction power' of different models. Good luck.

If you look above you will see I answered this question in 2018. I must repeat get hold or the manufacturer of the gas hob. La Cornue which I used to be the exclusive importer of from France has huge burners, which are commercial in size and use, so 150mm would not be nearly enough on one. The manufacturer will have done tests and should be able to give definitive guidance. Don’t forget if you put a pan on the hob the flame will span out far further under it. On Monday I would get hold of the manufacturer - I hope that helps.

Hi there, I would have one single sheet running from the left cupboard side to the oven side & running flush under the extractor. I'm guessing thats an approx area of 1190mm x 650mm (ish) That way you will have one simple easy to clean area, the splash-back won't make the extractor look unbalanced & you won't have any fiddly cut-outs going under the cupboard which might look odd.

OK, so I am a bit confused. I do not want a big chimney style extractor. My range will be against an external wall. I like the look of the streamline in the pic above, with hidden extractor, in line with all the other wall units. If I wanted to pull that off, would all my wall units need to be 75cm above the hob? So gap between base and wall units 75cm? Just seems a bit of a big gap - currently my gap between base and wall units is 45cm. I will have the height to do it, as the kitchen is opening into a room with 2.8m high ceilings, when currently it is in room with 2.15m ceiling!

It’s 760 gap you need between the gas hob part and the underside of the hood ( that could be set into wall cabinets ) for at least the same width of the hob ... these will be higher set than your other wall cabinets - most people line up the top part of the cabinet if they can . Hope that helps.
