Can you please tell me the wood used/colour/price? Is it natural or engineered as I am still considering whether to install underfloor heating? We are in Buckinghamshire so not sure if this is an area you would cover? Would you be able to supply if not install? Many thanks

Hi, agree with Minnie101 re the bookcase wallpaper which I have under the stairs, however, I didn't chose the most expensive, lighter one, which I regret, so, if you opt for this, pay more for a lighter one to brighten the wall. Do think about removing the carpet - it's not that hard as I'm about to rip mine out, rub the stairs down and put runners in with 2nd hand wooden stair rods, bought on ebay, from a man who'd bought a stately home with one too many staircases in it. I bought 5 runners based on Mondrian's art which adds colour and hope, with the aid if a staple gun, the runners will fit the stairs and work - otherwise I'll have 5 runners for sale. Good Luck. B

Hi For years, people have stripped back carpet from stairs and painted them. With wooden floors being sold in all flooring shops, wooden stairs seem a natural progression - if not too noisy and not prone to scratch marks as people have said. Myself I have a wooden spiral staircase, quiet and not too scratch but also not great quality, laminate rather than wood. However the picture you posted looks, to my eyes, very 1970's, OK for people into that style but perhaps a bit niche for the rest of us.

Thank you for your comments. We will be arranging the new business over the next couple of months. We will probably publish a simple website from where a brochure can be downloaded. Customers can choose which components they want in their Pendant, these can then be manufactured at the factory. Once made - a photo can be taken at the factory and sent to the customer for final approval before the item is sent to the customer. I'm afraid for custom made products, we won't be able to take them back unless faulty. From a cost perspective for custom Pendants, we are still working this out, but will be in the range of £100-£300+VAT depending on design, materials and finish. Shades will be in range of materials from Glass, Metal, Wood, Concerete, Plastic etc. If you are a designer and have a completely new shape and design that you want to have manufactured to sell in some volume (100+ pieces) - that is also possible. The factory does this for lighting designers in Europe. There will be an initial cost to design and re-tool to produce the design, but this will be your exclusive design. Obviously, your Pendants will be at wholesale rates. We will also provide LED lamps for the Pendants - standard LEDs lamps and also the atmospheric LED filament lamps. There is a lot to do to establish this business - but thanks for taking the time to comment and help us understand the market and any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Period doors and in this case a fire surround were made from inexpensive wood and always supposed to be given a faux wood grain finish or painted so I would paint this fire surround. Spray painting might be easiest. White is not the only option- consider either a light or darker shade of the wall colour or a different neutral such as grey.
