Good or bad experience with marble worktops
Comments (6)Hi there, White marble looks gorgeous as a worktop but is quite porous and prone to staining. All natural stone worktops will need to be sealed, but marble does require more maintenance and care than other types of worktop. Alternatives you could look at are combining a white composite worktop with a white marble splashback that runs up to the underside of your wall-mounted cupboards. I've attached a couple of images to illustrate what this could be like. Granites can be really striking, but there doesn't tend to be the same colour range of white-grey as you find with marbles. You might also consider using a white quartzite, which is a natural material. Although quartzites tend to be a little softer than granites, I've attached an image of a couple which have a hardness comparable to some granites - best if you were to go with a 30mm thick worktop if using them though. The one with the larger crystals is called Iceberg White, and one with the smaller crystals that run in bands is called White Nestos. Hope that is of some help! Comments (2)Hi Simon There is a host of colours to choose from in lighter shades it really depends on what other colours you like and how cream your units are. Take a look at the ones on this link http://www.kitchen-design-ideas.org/granite-countertop-colors-yellow.html It is important you get a sample before and remember that it is a natural product so there will be variations...See MoreHow to choose a kitchen worktop: manmade or natural stone?
Comments (16)@NG sintered stone is like a porcelain and so the edge and the sink cut out will be plain and polished. In the same way any drainer grooves will be plain plus most sintered stone is so thin that the drainer grooves probably aren’t very deep or very effective. Speak to your kitchen designer to find the best option: Over mounted sink with drainer Flush fit sink with drainer Under mounted sink with drainer. Multi level sink with accessories that act as a drainer. Sink and drainer manufactured in the worktop material...See MoreHelp pls:Mixed worktops w/ county kitchen & Moroccan-style floor tiles
Comments (0)Hi, We are finally renovating our kitchen and would like some advice about installing 2 different types of kitchen worktops: granite and wood. We have a smallish J-shaped kitchen and with a separate laundry room which houses the fridge/freezer and washing machine. The style is classical/country cabinet doors in cream/mushroom colour and neutral walls. We have Moroccan style tiles which we installed when we first moved in to brighten up the kitchen, and we would like to retain these (picture included). For cost efficiency, we are considering brown or cream (can’t decide colour!) granite worktops across where the hob and sink will be situated and a dark wood across the 3rd worktop (sample plan attached). Most of the pictures of mix and match countertops on houzz/Pinterest etc seem to involve an island Or breakfast bar, neither of which we have enough space for. Thus would like your feedback on: Will differing worktops work or do they appear too disjointed in a smaller kitchen Advice on granite/quartz worktop colours that will work with the floor tiles. also any advice re: colour scheme for walls/splashback/cabinetry hardware/tiles would be appreciated. most of my kitchen toys ie food processor/kettle/toasrer are grey/black, and the hob/oven/microwave are likely to be grey/black so doesn’t really match with a traditional/country style kitchen! Many thanks in advance...See MoreH BB
