faux brick walls

Hi all... I love exposed brick but I’m renting and everything is plastered.. can you buy realistic faux brick covering? Wallpaper samples that I’ve seen so far just don’t look realistic enough so wondering if there is another way without trashing my landlords house.... thanks :)

On film sets they use MDF with proper brick slips fitted to them - these MDF panels are then screwed to the wall in the four corners - means when they are done they only have four screw holes per 8’x4’ sheet to infill. Might be worth considering -but chat to your landlord, as they might like the brick idea !

Have you looked at Milton and King wallpaper? It’s an Australian company but they ship very quickly to UK. They’re probably less than half the price of the designer brands here. We used their whitewash wood wallpaper in our spare room and despite not having wallpapered for about 20 years and hanging the wallpaper horizontally it went up easily. It’s a quality “paste the wall” paper. Their website also has people’s real life pictures in the reviews. This one might be what you’re looking for:

how about a wallpaper to the other 3 walls a black pattern with a light background or the other way around black background wallpaper with a lighter print on. It could tie the room together better. As its a tv room it will give a nice warm feeling to it. The tan sofa will sit nicely and you can add cushions that have tan and black prints. Prestigious and harlequin have on nice options or possibly villa nova. i have attached a couple of images both very different in styling depending on your taste.

Hi I had the same dilemma with the dining part of my kitchen. I love the brick wall effect so decided to try a wallpaper as it's only a small wall. I'm really pleased with the results. It cost me just £9 for one roll from B & Q. You can only tell it's wallpaper by getting up close and touching it - before and after photos attached.

I like Carolina's idea to put TV in the existing alcove. You could also get a tradesman to make the other side of the fireplace look similar and add shelves there (and mirror or artwork above fireplace). I don't think it matters if one alcove is wider than the other. We have that in our sitting room and it looks fine. The finish on the 'new' alcove will look good if it is plastered and painted (to match other side). Or you could ask builder to use mdf/similar to fill out the top and then wallpaper the chimney breast and the the bits above the two alcoves to match. Not sure - just an idea.

Thanks for the comments guys... will order a sample for the wallerpaper company you suggested and see what that’s like... if no good then the MDF idea is always a possibility... much appreciated :)
