Shower over freestanding bath, without a curtain. Is my plan logical?!
Comments (48)Free standing baths are only suitable for larger rooms where you have the ability to position the bath with free access all the way round, I regularly remove them from smaller bathrooms when doing re-fits, people like the aesthetics of the free standing bath and plough ahead and install them against a wall, the result is a disgusting accumulation of dust, fluff, pubic hair etc, this will happen quite quickly and you will regret having gone down this route. The concept of having the bath with no curtain is interesting though, in a bathroom around 2.1m square, most of the bathroom will be effected by splashing, the room will need a wet room floor former, and will require that the whole room is tanked prior to tiling, have a look at. (http://www.wetroominnovations.com) I usually use their Maxus formers and Purus gully traps. you can indeed get a flexible waste connection, have a look at McAlpine "Flexcon" range, these are available through any reputable merchants, these are quite substantial and would stand up to semi regular movement, if your free standing bath is an acrylic bath it won't be too heavy, so moving it would be quite straight forward, but I would suggest having small felt pads on the feet to protect the tiled surface, also from a drying point of view, Karcher have a very good little gadget for cleaning windows, which vacuums up the water, I often mention it to clients and any who have bought one have been delighted at how easy it is to use, it will leave the floor almost dry once you have used it, one note of caution would be your choice of floor tile, you will need a porcelain tile that has an R rating, this is a slip resistant rating and would be most advised. another note of caution, because the splashing will not be controlled, any vanity or wood based furniture will deteriorate. I hope this is of some help....See MoreDo we have room for a walk in shower and bath tub?
Comments (6)Hello there, as far as bathroom fixtures go, we've just launched a new collection which would fit in very well with the Scandinavian style you're after. The collection is called Modern Minimalist and has those clean, crisp lines and sleek shapes synonymous with Scandinavian design. Here is a link to the collection in full and below are a couple of images to give you an idea of what's available... MySlim Rettangolari Mia Cascade Let me know if you'd like more info! Comments (11)The "sellable" argument is, pardon me, a very British one to make. For a non-Brit, the answer to that question takes two forms: First, if this _is_ a major consideration then do one of two things: either - give up on the shower-only thing and instead opt for a larger / higher end bathtub that'll provide "space to shower" comfortably. Companies like Bette or Kaldewei make a range of steel tubs with a large size more than suitable for it. Or - plan "open space" in your layout to allow for the later addition of a tub. Potentially even with capped / hidden plumbing done ready right there, so that just adding a bath could happen whenever. That'd be a technical solution for the "what if ..." case. Second though: if it actually is not the main driver then ... why are you asking that question ? Purchasers are frequently annoyed having to rip out (expensive) fittings because they want something different anyway. You buy a new place and "make it yours " so you need to / will change things anyway. Why do you assume your "aged and used " generic place is preferable for a purchaser some time down the line to the slick and freshly painted developer project two doors down the road ? Enjoy your bathroom :-)...See MoreBathroom layout - want a bath and shower thoughts
Comments (10)Thanks everyone. I have decided to go for the layout suggested by John as I cannot move the toilet to the other side of the room. However I am going to keep the window in place as they are being replaced by UPVC and I think there is enough room to not have the shower too close to the window. Ive taped it it all out and walked through and it seems like it will work especially if I find a slimline cistern. Thanks everyone!!...See MoreAnthony (Beano)
