Do I have a right to light?
Comments (10)I would say there's nothing you can do about the trees. If they were my trees i'd be a little miffed at being asked in the first place. After all, you took the house on knowing what it was like, and if the trees are that large, then they've been there a very long time. However, there are things that you can do to brighten your home, especially in an extension. Having a flat roof with a roof lantern will draw the light in. The only time that the angle of light is affected will be in the winter months, as the sun surely has to be higher in the sky than the trees throughout most of the year. Having a pitched roof with sky lights will angle the light backwards. We have a similar issue here, the back of our house is north facing. We installed a glass roof on our conservatory and the difference to the light levels was considerable. Also, we have daylight bulbs in the kitchen / diner / conservatory ( all open plan - helping again ), the bulbs make a big difference too. So, don't despair, pinch the light from a different angle which will currently be restricted by your windows....See Moredoes anyone have experience with a shower tray and curtain??
Comments (28)Thank you all so much for your input. Really do appreciate it. (AS - unfortunately the loo has to be on the side nearest the riser that holds the waste pipes - but thank you for taking the time to do the plan). I should probably have mentioned that the shower will be a rainfall one and the pressure isn't great - so it's not a really powerful shower that would definitely flood. What I am looking into now is perhaps a slightly recessed shower tray - harder for water to go up right?! rather than ugly built up sides. A bit like this image bit recessed shallow tray....See Morelight switches and sockets - anyone else ok with white
Comments (22)We are having a mixture. Brushed steel in the kitchen to go with the appliances, as they are quite visible at worktop height or in the sides of the island. White flat plate in the hall and drawing room. White plastic upstairs. I agree that it’s better to get white plastic from a reputable supplier which won’t go wrong, than a cheap metal socket or switch which looks the part but will give up within a year, or be a nightmare to fit. Also bear in mind the flat plate ones require a deeper back box (35mm) so if you already have standard 25mm ones you won’t have the flat plate option....See MoreKitchen Bi-Folds - Click Fit, Roman or Curtains
Comments (4)Can’t help directly with your dilemma but I also know of someone who knocked all their rooms into one another and had bi-folds and is also having the same problem. She said it’s permanently cold and wished she’d have thought about it more before they had it done. I would have thought thick curtains floor to ceiling would be better than Roman blinds though....See MoreUser
