does the copper require regular polishing, especially if used as a kitchen island pendant?

I'm glad you kept them, hopefully the new owner will keep them too. People are too quick to remove things that add character to property just so they can follow the trend of shiny chrome everywhere. Guess im old fashioned lol http://www.cmdceramics.com

I'll second the wax polish too, it does work really well on raw metal. Clear wax of course, I've used Antiquax before and it was fine. Needs redoing every few years, or rubbing up to keep the sheen. In fact that's what I'm about to do on the banisters a blacksmith has recently made for me. And as for Zeebrite, it might be called Zebo, one or the other anyway.

Are cage lights in the entrance hall too much?

I think the black and white scheme looks really striking against the tile floor. Is it particularly the cage lights that are trendy at them moment that you like or is it the industrial trend generally that you'd like to incorporate? Maybe there's something with a more 1930's industrial feel that would sit well against the period features? Or alternately just go for it but the more modern the better if wanting to juxtapose old and new. Nothing to subtle - big and bold cage style light could work. You could have one made up with 1930's style Bakelite fittings with a gorgeous coloured cord to pick up the red in the tiles. There are many companies that supply these fittings or you might find something suitable on Etsy. Good luck with your project :-)

@pma - yes I thought about the silver side and although it looked better (guess because of all the silver in the room) it kind of drained the wall? Made it feel colder? Weird. I got a bronzed brass sample from the metal sheet company and before I painted the wall, you couldn’t really see all the colours in it (just looked black) Then after painting, all the bronze and colours popped out of it so I’m getting a price. Will be something we will have to save for as it will be super expensive ie probably over £600 so we are going to live with the painted wall for now and add the shelves etc then see what we think :0) Going to get some gold toned hanging lights as they might just lift that area without it being too much.
