Advice on Fitted Wardrobes/Fireplace

Looking for advice please on fitted wardrobes for this bedroom. The present late 70s presses do not have a backing. New ones would come out further, they would be 600mm deep. Undecided as to what to do with the 60s fireplace. If I take it out could have
wardrobes across the wall. There would be a much less deep one
in the chimney breast.

Hi Therese,

You could keep them as two seperate wardrobes and revamp to something more modern, alternatively you could get rid of the fire place and step out the two wardrobes and create one large wardrobe all flush and the chimney breast would work as a row of narrow shelves!

We're all for a bit of hard work, and would definitely paint the cupboards. You are right not to use F&B, it's an inferior paint compared to dulux, and not correct for your purposes, being Eggshell finish. Dulux Trade Satinwood is far better, gives a better finish and is hardwearing. ( It's also more expensive than F&B i'm afraid, but you get what you pay for ). I'd paint the cupboards in a pale grey and replace the knobs. Give the area behind the bed a good dark grey finish, to help with making your choice of headboard really stand out. Don't sand a laminate door with a palm sander, you'll likely go through the laminate. Although I usually lightly sand with a fine grade paper by hand..........just to be sure the paint will stick.................with today's products it's accepted that it's not necessary. Use this paint as the primer, being water based it will not restrict you to which paint you can put over the top. Zinsser 1-2-3 ( water based version ) Roller all paint on with a small gloss roller for a nice flat and even finish. Take the doors off also................I know that sounds obvious, but i've rescued a lot of calamities.

@E D :D The layout of the kitchen is strange as the window is in a corner which means there is almost no natural light in the rest of the space. We are also only two people and don't need two bedrooms, so we figured this made more sense for us.
