Elevated house - How to improve facade of detached 70's house?
Comments (22)I rather like your facade. I would think twice about painting the brickwork, as this would be a maintenance headache, but cleaning it would brighten it up. Otherwise stucco and paint the front ( brickwork) only? i would clad your existing canopy in lead, but leep the existing shape. Is the tarmac yours? If you could change this to something lighter and softer, this would have a really big impact. Clad the stairs in slate or indian sandstone, get rid of the block screen and replace with glass, ( marine grade stainless steel fittings and door furniture) black iron railing for the steps....See MoreImprove this kitchen with £20k in 6 months!
Comments (19)Hi there, Although £20K sounds like a lot of money, extensions can really eat into your budget, especially if you find unexpected problems along the way. The kitchen is one of the main features that can sell a house, so getting it right is really important. The space you already have is ample for a lovely kitchen. Unless you want to double your budget, I'd consider working with the space you have and making it really lovely. So, design-wise, you need to decide what kind of style you like. Modern country, city-slicker, monochrome masculinity, pretty in pink. Try writing down a few words to capture your style. Once you have a clear style in mind, head off to somewhere like B&Q (are you in the UK?) and have a free consultation. They can talk to you about options for the layout, and then they will model it in in 3D so you get a good idea of how it will look. Let us know how you're getting on....See MoreHow can we improve our lounge?
Comments (12)I'm not sure making the fireplace look heavier would be a good idea. However rather than fight the off centre I would work with it. Possibly wall hang the TV to the right of the fireplace it looks as if that would make it quite good for viewing from the sofa. Get a bigger rug which would still be off centred but would pull in/integrate the soa area more. I wouldn't put the TV in front of the window as the blockage of the view could feel negative and if the sun shines through during the day difficult to see TV without drawing curtains. What about a mirror above the fireplace you seem to have a window at each end of the space so a mirror could act like a third window reflecting light and giving weight to that are away from the TV. A window seat could work nicely....See MoreHow to improve an exposed brick wall.
Comments (6)I cant speak for the technical aspects of it. I assume there must be a way to seal it. But in terms of visual, get some neatly stacked logs for display up against it and some wicker baskets to house some more and surround the woodburner with appropriate paraphernalia. Your furniture looks quite classic, and this shouldn't be hugely at odds with that....See MoreSandra Lloyd
