Do bedside cabinets need to match?

I'm having difficulty finding what I want in the right dimensions 70-80cm wide. I've found a low chest of drawers which is perfect and would tie in with the bed (dark wood four poster) but they are 90cm and so too big. I'm wondering whether to get one and then find something different for the other side. There are a few photos on Houzz of non matching bedside cabinets but I've always thought they look a bit odd. Am I just behind the times?

Did you spot the mirrored side table in the same range - you could have one of those on hubby’s side ?

Is there not another wider space that the bed could sit ? So you could buy a pair - as they are perfect.
Or could the bed sit central to the room on a pony wall ? I seem to remember it’s quite a big room?!

It is a big room and I'm struggling with it to be honest. We are converting the room next door into a dressing room and so we won't need any wardrobes in the bedroom either which gives us even more space but every wall is tricky because its dual aspect and has two doorways. I'll try to find the plan and post it. I think the bed (dark wood) probably has to stay where it is and I like having a wider cabinet for all my junk. Plus the bedside lamps are really big.

This is the chest of drawers I wanted to use (I liked the mixture of wood and mirror) but they're 90cm wide which would mean they'd overlap with the balcony french doors. They do a bedside table and so I contemplated having the drawers one side and the bedside table the other side but they're different heights and so I think that would look odd.

Fabulous ideas everyone, keep them coming:-) Carolina, my first thought was also a mirror, maybe an antique style one. Definitely something to think about. Minnie101, I love your inspiration as always, love the blue cameo box image, will definitely test out some decoupage on the little bedside cabinet. To all, must say I’m not much for chalk paint, never liked the feel of it although you can get some good effects plus you can always varnish/wax over it. Just feel for this piece I neeeed colour! Our hallway can get rather gloomy at the best of times (north facing with only the door for daylight). I do love natural wood but the cabinet, although nicely shaped is just cheap pine and not the best quality. I didn’t pay much for it so feel justified in painting it. Emily, i’ll probably get the Land Rover enamel paint just because I want to see how it compares to standard gloss, watch this space! Here’s my inspo pic for hallway although ours hasn’t got the side bit round the stairs, it’s slightly wider and we need storage for bike and shoes etc.

Hiya, I do like the gold/copper side tables :) but we have soooo many metallics going into the lounge/diner/kitchen that I just wanted something a little less gold in the spare room! ......... ..... Yes, the writing bureau is 100% going in the guest bedroom as that is where it will get used. It will be used for the laptop and paperwork, in a room with a sea view. The guest bedroom will have a double purpose- the view is too beautiful for it only to be used for guests. Also it’s over 20ft long!

Awesome unit! I think it will really add something to the room, I think it works with the sofa as the legs are similar in shape. However, it's a large unit and like Jonathan, I can't see it fitting in to the room unless you use the unit instead of the Besta Units and put the T.V in one of the Cubby Holes. You would obviously need to specify the size for one of the apertures. ( Exactly as Marina had in one of her Renders on your other post )

Looks like a good solid bed. Good idea to have the wardrobes painted, they look good apart from the colour and the handles (sorry). Could be worth changing them. Re bedside tables, I’m generally not a great fan of matching them (to the bed), but feel this is personal preference and getting mismatching right is not easy. I‘m sure others here will further advise. 😊

Thats the one I thought was a bedside table. Its quite a bit smaller than then drawers so I didn't know if it would look weird.

Floorplan. Its the master bedroom. The bed is on the wall with the french doors. I contemplated having it on the side wall as soon as you walk in but that would close off the french doors.

If you closed off the door in that’s next to bedroom four and entered the suite via the nursery you could have the bed on the wall that backs into bedroom four ?

Hmm, hadn't thought of doing it that way. Although then we'd lose wardrobe space since its the nursery that will become the dressing room (we were going to close off the nursery door and knock through the back wall). Good to have a different perspective on it.

Another possible option is these which would just fit but I don't like them as much

Or I've also just found these which are very similar to the laura ashley ones and I could stain the sides to match the dark wood of the bed

Hellooo!! Its the old gang back! I'm finally doing the bedroom/dressing room and ensuite. Patio now sorted too. I'm on a mission now to try to get things sorted before any Brexit turmoil requires us to tighten the purse strings..

I like mismatched bedside tables; they make a space feel more collected and less contrived. However, they should be unified in either style or material and both work with the bed + linens.
