Paint? Perhaps one that co-ordinates with the room, or one that picks out a feature colour in the room?

Another shelf my be good in the lower part.

Hello! The paint has been great - it looks the same as the day it was painted, no flakes or any other issues. The doors have been regularly sprayed with flash with bleach kitchen cleaner, and it's not made any difference to the paint finish etc. I would recommend the paint, the only issue is it is a bit ,limited on colors.

Hi , We are using both colours ...I prefer dark ,hubby prefers light . But both look good so we are leaving the units as they are .just need to change flooring and we are done . It was worth the effort though at the time I was regretting starting the project but the paint and Handle changes have made such a difference to the room. All for about 100 pounds :-) It's worth the time and effort and more satisfying because we have done the work ourselves.

Dear Adrienne, I hope you are having a good day and thanks for posting your query. You've a wonderful spacious kitchen but it has little personality. Everything has been chosen to be neutral but I don't expect it feels very homely, and it looks boring. There are a number of sensible inexpensive options. I can see that it's tiled up to the wall units, then I think painted above? Are you averse to colour? If not, since you have a lovely wide window and masses of natural light I would suggest a bold colour change - any colour that sings to you and that has some conversation with the rooms that lead from this room (unless they are also being made over). Don't be nervous of deep colours - they work exceptionally well in a kitchen and I've used Farrow & Ball's Off Black throughout a kitchen recently that will be in a national magazine shortly. Or try a dark navy blue, a deep green but - go bold! And don't be afraid to include the ceiling in the redec - no white lids.. Alternatives: paint the units paint the tiles (use Blackfriars problem-solving primer first) use a long rug under the table to add some texture (but if you have tiny children use one from Dash & Albert that you can hose down!) repaint the tabletop and legs (I would go black to reference the worksurfaces and handles on the fridge) add sheepskins to the chairs (not if you have small people!) If you are in the south or east of England I offer home consultations and full reports so that you can run ideas past a pro and get some inspiration you might not have considered. Best of luck! Sarah

If you don't want to change the colour or paint it, I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean by "improving it"?

I could suggest decoupage or stencilling, or highlighting the edges with gold or painting the inside a different colour to the outside/ painting the outside a different colour to inside. Make it look like a Mondrian with blocks of colours in squares. Explore chalk paint and distressing. Paint an abstract design of your choosing on it, paint it in a camouflage style.

Put LED lighting strip in the lower half to make a lighted feature shelf, or create an aquarium in it or glass fronted terrarium

You could cut a pattern of holes in the back panel and light it from behind, or even put coloured glass over the holes for a stained glass effect.

Other than just putting another shelf in, I really don't know what else there is to do. Perhaps put doors on the lower half or some sort of grille across the front?

Maybe put some small potted plants on the lower shelf?

You could inlay brass or mother of pearl. Or make a decorative pattern with tacks or nails with decorative heads.

Put cup hooks on the underside of the shelf and hang cups from it ....or tiny colourful bunting.

You could cover it in fake fur or faux leather. You could attach fringes and tassels.

Buy something different?

Thankyou so much for all your ideas.. I searched on them and really liked them!! Especially the LED strip one.. :D

Actually it's a study table and I want the theme of my room to be white and light gray..

so maybe I would paint it.. The chalk paint idea is really awesome.. Should I paint it gray or white ?

If you have anymore ideas regarding the study table .. do share.. Much appreciated :)

Moreover, what kind of study chair would be the best for the white and gray theme..
