Need help with garden... landscape / deck
Comments (10)FWIW, I found a designer here on Houzz and followed her jobs for a while. The job I copied was a $100k job-granted I didn't have all of the built in goodies, but I still got a lot of great ideas from her . Local landscapers in my area all do the same type of boring hedges I knew I was going for tropical jungle, so I encourage you to know your style and break free from the same old thing. I can't expect you to have my taste, but I'd still tell you to hide the shed behind the greenery :) also, know what are your native plants or which can easily be adapted to your growing zone. You can better assess your sun/shade situation once you take out the trees. I really had to learn how many hours of sun I was getting in what parts of the yard before I could determine what would grow best, including grass varieties....See MoreAdvice on patio/deck from extension onto garden
Comments (7)Have you chosen your indoor tiles yet? There are a few tiles on the market these days that are suitable for both indoor and outdoor. If you have chosen your indoor tiles, would they also be the right colour for outside, and what is their 'cleanability' / longevity for not gathering moss etc ? I think for me, hardwood decking would suit the house as would big slabs. So it's down to personal choice. Smaller slabs may look a little dwarfed outside with such a good size of garden. Slabs will look great sat on top of brick steps. Can I see the outside there being clad in timber due to all the horizontal lines on the plan? If so, then decking would not be my first choice as it would potentially clash with the cladding. You may also end up looking like you have a great big wooden log cabin with the cladding and decking. So, I think for a traditional look, to tie in with the style of house, it would be large slabs on brick to match those in the house already....See MoreBEFORE AND AFTER DECKING UPDATE
Comments (47)New Girl thank you for your lovely kind comments. I did Click & Collect so paid ahead and then collected the paint. I’ve just checked my local stores, nearest one in Letchworth, Herts, and many of them have about 8 cans per store, so is your store telling porkies? I would research any paints you buy as paying more doesn’t always mean better quality. Silver Birch was one I considered and it does look lovely. Good luck!...See MoreIdeas needed for small outdoor terrace
Comments (5)I agree, as it’s a rental a nice outdoor rug (I have one!) can really pretty Up an area and some nice big pots with, say, a Japanese Maple and some summer bedding like Geraniums in them would add structure and colour. It looks like you have a row of Christmas trees all along the front of the patio (the brown one looks dead) which make your patio a little claustrophobic, so you could trim the tops down to give you some some air and let you at least look out. Nothing too drastic as conifers don’t grow from old wood stems. I would be wary of painting the deck as so many deck paints are not long lasting - I speak from experience....See MoreSonia
