Advice on patio/deck from extension onto garden
Comments (7)Have you chosen your indoor tiles yet? There are a few tiles on the market these days that are suitable for both indoor and outdoor. If you have chosen your indoor tiles, would they also be the right colour for outside, and what is their 'cleanability' / longevity for not gathering moss etc ? I think for me, hardwood decking would suit the house as would big slabs. So it's down to personal choice. Smaller slabs may look a little dwarfed outside with such a good size of garden. Slabs will look great sat on top of brick steps. Can I see the outside there being clad in timber due to all the horizontal lines on the plan? If so, then decking would not be my first choice as it would potentially clash with the cladding. You may also end up looking like you have a great big wooden log cabin with the cladding and decking. So, I think for a traditional look, to tie in with the style of house, it would be large slabs on brick to match those in the house already....See MoreUPDATE: FIVE WEEKS AFTER PAINTING MY DECK
Comments (46)I have been using this for three years, i jet washed the decking first and did two coats, it did last well over a year to be honest , the following summer, just one coat was enough, it did pretty well on my decking the whole summer with extensive walking over. thats my feedback , so i am not sure why it came off so quickly on yours....See MoreOutdoor Kitchen DIY - Cheap and simple design?
Comments (19)At the risk of being controversial, I wouldn't put very much faith, at ALL, in anything you see on Garden Rescue. Some of what they do is atrocious and will quickly fall apart. On a more constructive note, nobody ever seems to consider including a sink. If you have one it could be very useful fro food preparation as well a little bit of washing up, washing hands etc. I am going to find a stone sink for my garden. I will have it attached to a mains feed but one could have a sink on tank feed with an on demand pump supplying it....See MoreIdeas needed for small outdoor terrace
Comments (5)I agree, as it’s a rental a nice outdoor rug (I have one!) can really pretty Up an area and some nice big pots with, say, a Japanese Maple and some summer bedding like Geraniums in them would add structure and colour. It looks like you have a row of Christmas trees all along the front of the patio (the brown one looks dead) which make your patio a little claustrophobic, so you could trim the tops down to give you some some air and let you at least look out. Nothing too drastic as conifers don’t grow from old wood stems. I would be wary of painting the deck as so many deck paints are not long lasting - I speak from experience....See MoreSonia
