Colour Scheme
Comments (1)Hi. Any colour will go. Taupe works really with cream and black as does adding gold elements as pictured. If the room is all cream I would think of either changing the cushions to black and cream or add white elsewhere in accessories...See MoreThoughts on colour scheme for living room
Comments (14)hi Hanwood. Personally I am not a fan of matching curtains to cushions - to me it is a little outdated but it is personal preference. I think the fabric is nice, if you wanted to keep with monochromatic theme, then maybe you could go with cream rug, and some brown tones for accessories. Not sure if fabric is from a fabric company, if so sometimes, within the same book it is possible that there is fabric that is from the same family - in other words, that look good together. See below what I mean about varying the tones of cream/ beige -- lighter (cream) and darker (browns). Also vary the materials, and textures (rough, soft, smooth, shiny, etc). Usually varying the pattern size within the space works nice too as you can see from cushions and rug here. Of course it is all personal preference - you may not even like the below look. It is just some ideas:). A lot depends on the floor and other permanent features you have already in the room. If you post some more pictures, others will give you advise. My only final thought is that leather sofa is quite contemporary/ masculine and fabric is quite feminine/traditional. Best of luck....See MorePOLL: Where do you start when decorating your living room?
Comments (23)Furniture and flooring need to be long stay options, so I would choose these first, then introduce colors of walls from curtains and pick it up in cushions and rug. that way it is easy to freshen up room in a few years without changing the major expenses e.g. new paint color and cushions...See MoreHow to Decorate Living Room / Dining Room?
Comments (3)Hi Minnie, thanks for your reply. The paint brand is Johnstone's. My wife also thought Brilliant white might be too cold so we are now considering something with a little bit more warmth, possibly a more 'creamy' colour. The living room faces West, the dining room East - the living room gets the sun in the evening. The paneling would be going around the inside edge of the arch, basically an architrave that wraps the sides and the under edge. I have had it suggested to me that we paint the two window walls and the archway in blue as that will link the rooms together whilst ensuring that the colour is visible regardless of which room you are in or where you are sat? The boards will stay exposed though we are sanding them are treating with a light oak coloured varnish. Furniture wise, the sofa is an beige/mocha fleck colour, dining table is 'shabby chic' wooden top with white legs, Coffee table is wood topped with white legs....See Morelinmacv88
