Pro's and con's for converting a 4 bed house to a 3 bed + ensuite?
Comments (15)I agree with Jonathan, keep the rooms as they are - lose the long stretch of wardrobes on the back wall of the 2nd bedroom then steal a bit of space for the ensuite (you probably don't need the full width of the room so maybe leave an alcove that can then become a built in wardrobe for that room). If possible I'd stick a frosted window in for the en suite, even if it backs onto an alley if its obscured glass the view doesn't matter but it will bring in light and feel less claustrophobic. I've attached a quick version of what I mean - in the new ensuite room the shower is to the left, basin middle and toilet right with blue line representing the window. The alcove that is left in the 2nd bedroom is turned into a wardrobe so there is still some storage in there. Let me know what you think and good luck with whatever you decide :)....See MoreLive Chat: How to Create a Beautiful and Functional Bathroom
Comments (50)For DIY bathroom renovations to save money it is possible to tile over existing tiles. You will need to score the tiles with an emery stone to give them a key. Then use a single part flexible powder adhesive as buckets of adhesive will provide sufficient adhesion. It will then be necessary to install a timber baton to the wall to provide a level line to then work up from. When tiling over tiles, things to look out for are architrave details around windows and door frames, the space behind the bath taps to ensure you can still operate them. You also need to set out the room to ensure the vertical and horizontal grout joints leave good sized cuts when the tiling reaches sanitary ware or floor and ceiling lines....See MoreHow to keep a kitchen sink area tidy...
Comments (31)In our new kitchen we got a double drawer dishwasher, so we always have space for dirty stuff. Our tea towels and hand towels live on a pull out rail in the left hand cupboard (where the rinse aid and washing tablets also live) and washing up brush, washing up liquid and sponges & cloths, live under the sink in a drawer in the right hand cupboard. Everything gets done in the dishwasher, other than roasting pans, saucepans etc, which get hand washed, drained for a while and then finished off with the tea towel and put way more or less right away. Other than that, there's only our expensive wine glasses, that get washed and dried immediately. All of which tends to keep the area quite clear all the time. I would say that the greatest difference has been made by the double dishwasher, we always used to have dirty stuff hanging around waiting, either for the dishwashing to finish, or waiting for it to be emptied of clean stuff....See MoreBathroom wall panels and sinks
Comments (7)I’ve had wall panels in a shower (Spa-board type) they lasted a long time but I didn’t buy the same again when I installed a walk in shower. They don’t look as attractive in a large enclosure. They lost their shine very quickly. Like tiles they get soap drying on and need cleaning and I find that tiles are easier to clean than being ‘careful’ when cleaning the boards and tiles come back to ‘new’ better. Also they have the ‘grout’ problem along each join and seal at the bottom. I have large tiles to minimise grouting. I spray Dettol mould n mildew on the sealer when it looks as if it’s starting to discolour and just leave it on, it washes off next shower. Sooo lazy! I use Ciff for the rest and it’s all good. The grouting is clean and it’s been done 4 years and 3 showers a day! We have a vanity unit which looks lovely but it has a resin type integrated sink, which as above shows the soap quickly, however it is easier to clean a sink. I’d rather have ceramic. The drawers are fab, everything is easy to see and access. It was apparent it wasn’t going to be safe wall mounted when kids started to use it so I had to have two support legs at the front, luckily they are chrome and not very noticeable....See Morechiflipper
