Window treatment advice for 1825 mill conversion

Hello all, long time stalker first time poster.
We are purchasing a large apartment in a converted mill next year in Manchester. The dilemma we have been thinking about is the type of coverings to choose for the huge windows (2.2m x 1.2m and there are 9 of them!).
We have been considering shutters, but aren't sure if it will fit with the property style, meaning you don't see many shutters on a 1800's mill in Manchester.
An advantage we have is we are buying everything for the apartment from scratch so not worried about selecting things to match existing furniture. All will be purchased to suit the apartment.
Any advice and alternatives would be warmly recieved.
