Can you help me make my living room work?
So... we recently moved and now have a larger living room. We already owned a fairly new comfy blue sofa, and a grey chair so thought we'd get another sofa to match. The sofa manufacturer doesn't offer the blue anymore so after a lot of deliberation we decided to go for the same sofa but in a contrasting colour. As soon as it arrived we were disappointed, I hate to say it because where as we were trying to make an economical choice I feel we have made an expensive mistake. It doesn't go with the carpet (which we didn't want to change) and I'm struggling to find a neutral paint colour for the walls.
We put the wallpaper up on the tv wall when we first moved in to cover up some v bold horizontal brown stripes. I really like the paper and we have thought about papering behind the light sofa too but concerned it will be a bit too much pattern and make the room tunnel like.
Also struggling to find curtains! Can anyone help me see a way to bring the room together?

Comments (12)The colors you have work together well: white, grey and maroon. They need to be balanced around the room. A patterned rug, white coffee table accent pieces, and shades instead of curtains for a smoother line. I'd place the mirror on the narrow wall with the clock above it (reverse exclamation point) to add quirk and interest. Lighting seems to be an issue: add floor lamp at one end of sofa and an end table at the other end crate, stump, something unique but functional). Comments (20)Hi Dawn, Copper accents are a lovely idea. Have you seen the Orient Lamp from Lightyears? It's quite a statement piece, but it would tie the room together. Fritz Hansen have got several photos of it with different styled interiors. In this one, they used several accent colours on the wall, and a fantastic metallic line across. Bringing in bright colours is easier with an already bright sofa - they stand out in contrast to the orange sofa, but the grey walls balance them. Comments (14)Agree about injecting colours - at the moment it is a bland room without any focal point. From your photo the picture - whilst it looks interesting - seems to be far too large for this room, or at least on this wall. Swap it for a smaller one, and place it level with the top of the windows. Replace the curtains with colour, match the same colour or similar to cushions on the settee, and a comfortable (but not too big) chair in the corner. There looks to be some sort of chair there, which seems out of place. If finances allow it, I would also replace the coffee table, as whilst glass tables seem a good idea, they take up space but do not add to the atmosphere of the room.
