Comments (2)Which house was it? The wood and white bar stools in the South London house looked like some I've seen in John Lewis? Don't know about any others I'm afraid but tweeting the programme is a good idea as the previous answer suggested....See MoreOpen Plan Flooring - What direction looks best?
Comments (9)I think perhaps it may be best to be pragmatic with the flooring based on the actual space. For instance, we've had Amtico flooring in wide planks put down in our kitchen. The perfect choice would have been to run them vertically from the door. However, being an older house, the walls aren't all at right angles to each other and it would have been highlighted by the planks. So we decided on diagonally, moving away from the door to draw the eye into the room, however, because of some odd shaped steps on an angle, it would have meant that once again there would be odd slivers of plank. In the end, we had the planks running diagonally towards the steps, so there were no awkward slivers of plank anywhere. Personally, I think it's resulted in a much more interesting floor. So I would opt for the first option - diagonally, which may prove to be easier in the smaller spaces like the bathroom, which may be difficult to lay at right angles to the walls and make a much more interesting floor.....See MoreBest paint colours for artwork in a north facing room?
Comments (7)Our north facing wall is a dark moss, combines really well with the pine floors, desk (cabinets are white, top is pine) and offwhite trim. No warm colour, but very soothing, cozy and calm. Personally I like yellow for hallways, not bedrooms. But a (burnt) orange accent wall would work (and a greige or offwhite on the other walls) really well with black and white artwork....See MoreHelp reconfiguring poorly laid out downstairs
Comments (5)Hi Minerva, I think your house has lots of potential. I really like the large entrance area but I also think moving the WC there would be a better use of space. I would take out the existing wc and replace that area with glazed double doors that will give you sight lines from the front door all the way to the back garden. I imagine your current dining room and kitchen are very dark and I notice you have the lights on during the day. The remedy for this would be to remove the load bearing wall between the two areas to create a spacious open plan area. I would move the kitchen to the back and add an island with bar stool seating. I would also have the living area at the back with direct access to the garden and remove much of the rear wall and replace with glazed bi fold doors. I would expand the under stairs storage to create a utility room and consider keeping the fireplace with a fire (gas or electric) as a feature of the dining space. I would also replace what is currently the kitchen door with a window seat and replace a section of the fence facing it with a vertical garden. I think this design would give you a four great open plan spaces dining, kitchen, living and window seat/reading nook. Overall giving you a spacious, light filled house with great sight lines throughout. Window seat inspiration:...See MoreJonathan
