Ensuite refurb, shower enclosure

I am planning refurb to our ensuite shower room, actually just floor tiles and shower that needs replacing. Budget is quite tight so hoping we can keep the existing wall tiles as they are good quality. My question is, when we take out shower enclosure there tiles there are obv more used and will have holes where enc is fitted. Planning a bigger, less frame shower, would we get away with just doing different tiles in shower area, or will that look odd? any ideas? Thank you.

We did exactly as you are proposing and when we took away the shower glass/frame, discovered that the holes left were actually very neat and small. We changed our shower base to a large oblong as the room size could take it and changed the screen to one large frameless screen. We simply filled the small holes in the tiles with a color matched grout, and they were virtually invisible, possibly helped by the fact that I think the eye was drawn to the larger glass screen and the greater simplicity of the lines. Hope it works for you too!

You can most certainly do that. Loads of examples of different tiles in shower areas on Houzz. However, if budget is tight, then what JC says sounds like a really good idea. I would fill the holes with matching grout as JC suggests, and then see how you feel it looks. I love it when a bold coloured tile is used in a shower, but they look great even with something more subtle.

What do you think of the mix between the dark wood on the unit and the light tiles on the wall? Large mirrors and tiles have been used to give the illusion of more space. Recesses in the shower enclosure the allow for more storage and wall hung units for a sleek look.

Thank you so much everyone for taking the time to comment. It's really tricky taking good photos as the space is so tight, but I will attach another photo and sketch to give a better idea of the space. Daisy- the photo was stretched, I didn't realise my portrait photo would be converted to landscape. So the sink is just set into a 50cm wide unit. I think the idea of moving the sink to the current bidet position is a good one, although as you'll see from the sketch there's very little wall on the left of the window so not much space for a mirror in front of the sink. Carolina- I love that photo! The bit I can't quite get is how the shower door would work if the shower head remained on the right (all the shower controls/electrics are on the other side of the wall, taking up space in a wardrobe!!) and the sink was on the left. whizzywig- the door opens out (my sketch should show it now) and the photo was taken from outside the door. I think the distance you asked for is 74cm. And yes, we queried the plumbing for a wc when we bought the house, but unfortunately it's not there - they said they didn't like the idea of a loo near their bed!!!

They’re lovely, although personally don’t like them laid in the wave pattern but like the others. Re marble, I’ve found this one. Not sure what you think. I have the monochrome decor tiles from MS and the white has a pinky undertone, I’m not sure if Helix are part of the same range. Thanks for replies. That is interesing what you found JC, I think we will try removing shower enc first and see what we find. Would be great if we could just fill holes and install new screen, can wait for an easy to clean screen!!
