Polished Concrete Floor

Is it possible to put polished concrete or micro cement on top of current kitchen floor tiles? has anyone done it successfully without issues? any recommended suppliers that people have used?

Hi Grant, this is possible but often the cost of the additional preparation works (extra diamond grinding, fibreglass mess and special epoxy primer) out ways the cost of simply taking them up and starting again. Without doing the correct preparation listed above the live span / durability of the microcement would be very much reduced. If you need anymore information please visit www.fortiscoatings.co.uk

thanks Fortis, and what is the main difference between polished concrete and micro cement products?...what would you advise for a living room floor with under floor heating?

Hello, Why not? It is stylish at the moment and I like the fact that not many people go for this interior style as it is linked to industrial style interiors. Most welcome Melissa, The thing to concentrate on is what they can offer.. Best thing to do is look at their website.. This will give you some indication as to how specialist they are.. Also speak to them about what you're looking for this is really important!.. Prices and options are key.. I love concrete but it's not for every client.. So these 3 suggestions are based on my selection as there are many more and I cannot personally give you any recommendations for those 3 sorry but... it might help you to get an idea of their differing approaches.... I would not let this put you off making some enquiries.. I usually tell by the level of experience and talking, plus looking at how varied a company is.. I am very very picky and have been in a position myself where I've gone with lots of reviews only to find out they were awful and actually didn't know how to do the job.. ! Kindest, Amber : ) )

hi Martinafoss polished concrete doesn't actually have any polish in it. it's process where the concrete screed is ground down and smoothed to give a polished appearance. it's a beautiful surface but really needs to be done by a specialist to get it right. it can be used outside, but you just need to make sure it's left with a bit of grip on the finish as it can get slippery when wet. the only downside to this, however is that the more open texture can attract moss but a good clean every now and again will sort this. make sure you include movement joints as large areas will crack due to settlement and thermal movement

Hi all - busy renovating ground floor of property - the space is about 45sq/m and will include open plan kitchen diner tv room space, can’t decide on flooring option and for some reason i think polished concrete is the way forward - any experiences with this floor type? Will have underfloor heating as well.
