Annexe apartment
Comments (0)We moved house in the summer and are in the process of converting part of the annexe building into an apartment for our daughter and her boyfriend. The previous owner was an artist, so we filled in the mezzanine floor to provide enough space for a bedroom and put in a partition wall for an en suite. Most of the work has been done by my daughter's boyfriend and his brother who are builders, a bathroom fitter friend is doing the en suite, plus the usual electrician, etc. We had a local kitchen company fit a small kitchen downstairs, we used the oven, hob and microwave from the main house kitchen because I wanted a new double oven and induction hob. The annexe is heated directly from the main house and the electric is also on the main circuit. As there was no hot water we had a small heater fitted in the kitchen, this will also supply hot water to the basin in the en suite. We have used an electric shower in the en suite. Fortunately all the services and pipes had already been installed by the previous owner....See Moresmall granny flat layout

Comments (5)Yes we have one, but we already had power and water so far into the garden, so it needed to be extended into the summerhouse. However drainage needed to be built down to the house (about 70m) - quotes for this alone were around £10k. But a smart company came up with a pump based solution which needed less digging and cost less overall - but it will require some maintenance as it is electric. I’d say your biggest problem is ‘habitable space’ - you need planning permission for this… ours is just a home office / gym, not to stay in so is done under permitted development...See Moreannexe design for a small space
Comments (35)Amazing ideas, really good, small can be so workable its just getting the colours and the ideas put into place, cant wait to get started as it can look so much better than it does now, someone said to stick to white, but another has suggested using colours, my head is buzzing with ideas, but sadly my purse wont allow, so have to be careful with what I do, Many thanks for all your help the first picture you sent through is just what I want, and so will be going with this I have the kitchen units, and the replacing worktop and getting the plumbing done, is the first thing, then to sort what was the kitchen and make it good for a bedroom by moving things in the bathroom, all go the bathroom was always too big, cant remember why but can take some space from it and make the bedroom liveable, Thanks again...See Moremandy carmichael
