Open plan living-blank canvas. Colour + warmth needed!
Comments (17)I love the idea of the duck egg blue and yellow adding a pop of colour to the white. I'd play it up a bit more and go for deep and bold jewel tones of teal, sapphire, plum and burgundy, mixed with a few of the more delicate neutral pillows you have. I think little pops of gold would do nicely with the jewel tones and match the yellow you already have. I'd definitely continue the idea of the sheepskin throw and maybe introduce a similar rug to bring some warmth and texture to the floor -perhaps a warmer beige. I think large black and white photographs of your preference would go nicely on the blank wall -perhaps flanked by some floating bookshelves to showcase any decorations that might bring more warmth and personality to the room....See MoreKitchen DIner Extention Inspiration needed
Comments (12)Yes I liked the first pic just with the dark greys. The dishes will look great on the wall! If you do want to add colour though why not just build on the green and blue accessories you have? Perhaps add a large piece of art over the sofa in deep greens and blue? It doesn't have to be botanical, an abstract might also work. I quite like this one on the link. Then pick up the colour for a cushion another geometric or an ikat could work, maybe with a little fuschia in. I agree with MATH, I might move the fridge to the opposite wall. It's hard to tell from the pics what's there though. You could always buy a plantation style screen to hide it and maybe paint it in a deep Caribbean blue. I like your light but wonder if the room needs something more substantial like a large wooden/ply style? I'm not sure if tiles are needed as you've got an upstand and splashblack? The splashblack may break it up a bit? I personally quite like that wall white as the boiler blends in https://attikoart.com/collections/all/products/marino-stone...See MoreInterior design help for a blank wall
Comments (15)Sorry, those rugs were both oka and they're not particularly cheap! Would these work as alternatives? They're both from JOhn Lewis and may be worth a look. I agree the tv needs to have something under it. Have you actually found any low consoles and will the tv sit flat once the mantle is up as it looks tight? I know it's the reason you posted but it's tricky to get furniture height to work with mantle height, you also need to make the console is wide enough for the tv to sit on, not too high for tv viewing plus make sure neither of the pieces encroach on the fire! What's the actual distance either side of the fire from the corners? You could try celerygirls idea, moving the tv over a bit more to the left and swap the curtains for Roman blinds hung outside of the recess to add height and not block light? Or go for a corner unit like this with a matching set of drawers or console. Personally I would put some boxes there to trial it before buying! https://www.cotswoldco.com/living-room-furniture/tv-stands/chester-large-corner-tv-unit---up-to-56/...See MoreBlank Canvas, need some help with garden design and path
Comments (7)Hi JC. I think the layout of the path will be quite important as well as deciding which plants to have. It looks like there is a lot of footfall on the lawn next to the patio so I think any path needs to start from here. Had you thought what material you’d like the path to be made out of? The size of the borders will depend on what plants you’d like to have, shrubs and trees will most likely need more space and can encroach on your lawn space. The suggestions above are all good tho and most of them are very hardy and tolerant of most soils. For privacy on the right fence I might go fo one main shrub, perhaps a Lilac and a tallish evergreen. If you get young specimens they’ll adapt to the soil better. In the meantime you could attach some trellis to the fence and grow some climbers such as the clematis Montana, honey suckle or star jasmine. I think the way to pick a planting plan is not to rush it but start with your star attractions first, the larger plants, shrubs or trees, look them up and find out their eventual height and spread. Then the rest you can fill in with the smaller things, like the perennials and bulbs. Be sure to check what conditions each plant likes, sun/shade etc. I bought this plant yesterday at a plant fair, Sambucas nigra ‘black lace’. It can grow very large but can be hacked back quite vigorously with little effect and is very hardy. Good job really as my garden isn’t huge and it’s staying in a container:-) Good luck with your garden, it’s a lovely space....See MoreEllie
