HI James, do you mean the one with the white flowers? That's Hydrangea arborescens 'Annabelle' that open as lime green, and fade to creamy white during the summer.

I've got bamboo in a big half whisky barrel planter. If I remember rightly the depth was the bigger issue. I would steer clear of runners though it will escape. Even a clumping bamboo will need digging a splitting on a regular basis otherwise the roots will damage the wall. If you like the look of bamboo have a look at Nandina it's a nice alternative but a bit better behaved. Failing that I'd go with a mixed border and climbers to disguise the fence.

Hi there, a lovely climber that needs little or no attention is an evergreen honeysuckle called 'Fire cracker' which grows in sun or shade. One tip for more flowers is train the plants horizontally not vertically. White jasmine is another evergreen climber that smells wonderful and again needs only to be tied to the wall. It has white flowers that give off a heady scent at night from June to September and in winter the leaves turn a glorious red colour. Cotoneaster is also a great evergreen shrub that looks great all year round and the bees love it. Mine is now climbing a wall but started off as a standard shrub. White flowers in the summer and red berries in autumn. Good luck xx

Sounds like a great project. The plants you've chosen would be a good combination although I hope you haven't got hay fever as the appropriately named sneezeweed might trigger it. I've labeled on the pics what I think they are but it's hard to tell from the photos. The hebe could be 'vernicosa' variety and the laurel is the variegated one. Pretty sure about the Agastache, but it could also be Veronica, Salvia or even Nepeta (cat mint) although I wouldn't plant cat mint in the border as it spreads like mad. I agree with using the Gardeners world forum. They're pretty quick at plant ID. As far as placement goes you'd usually have the taller shrubs at the back and the rest at the front in groups of three or five. All depends on what plants and which you'd like to see the most of.

Hi. If one of the level changes is 1.6m then you will definitely need professional support if you are putting in walls to retain the changes in level. If it is a wall that high, then it would be usual to get a structural engineer to do the design as it will need careful calculations to ensure it can take the weight. If you thought garden designers were expensive, then hold onto your hat for the engineers fees. A good garden designer may well be able to break the level change down into more manageable heights, that only require walls of a height that they could design for you. Obviously I don't know what the designers you had were charging, but remember it is a lot of work to design a garden, including time spent with you understanding what you want in the space, doing a detailed survey, including level changes, drawing the survey up to scale, designing the garden, drawing up the plan, doing drawings to demonstrate the design so you can visualize it, and planning the types of planting and materials for the build. It all takes time and expertise to do properly. It is equivalent to an architect for the garden.
