Sagging sofa cushions - how do I fix?

Hi there,

I’ve only had my sofa 3 months and it’s already begun to sink and lose its shape. Granted, it was a pretty cheap sofa but it doesn’t look nice anymore. Does anyone know a cost effective way to restore the fullness?

Any help is appreciated!!

What’s inside the seating cushions? Some are produced with a fibre filling and some have foam fillings. The fibre filling is very soft so won’t hold its shape. You could swap it (if this is what’s inside) and buy foam online to replace it with.

Can't tell exactly from the pics but could the two sofas be brought closer together positioned facing each other with a coffee table inbetween and the tv then put underneath the stairs? Would there be enough room to walk from the door through to the back room? It would make a nice seating area on the rug which you could change to a bold geometric monotone one if budget allows. Then some bold complimentary cushions also in monotones for the sofas and I agree with the pops of orange. I don't think it would matter if the sofas went right up to the present tv wall. At the moment everything seems to be pushed to the furthest extremes. Then you could have a table/desk or the pine cabinet under the window. I would paint it with Annie Sloan chalk paint which is very easy because you do not have to sand or undercoat and you can finish it with just a wipe of her wax which gives a nice finish. Paris grey is a good neutral colour. You could paint the wall with it also. (Sorry but I don't like the wallpaper sample. It looks too bedroomy to me.) If you are ever in a position to do so I would have the chimney breast removed because it has no purpose, takes up valuable space and is off centre as well. The wall facing the stairs would look nice a medium grey and needs a wow factor with a collection of some colourful or big art. I don't think the mirror works there. It just accentuates how the chimney breast is off centre. I would put pictures above the whole seating area on both the chimney breast and the wall to the right of it to centre the whole look. Not sure what you curtains are or whether they need to stay. Something to consider..... :)

I have a grey cushion from another room and have tried it on the sofa.... it looks gorgeous so will definitely be using grey as one colour, I will choose another colour or two to go with it! Or would 3 colours be too many? I Love the table lamp in your room Nitin, so I've decided to change my floor lamp to a table lamp : ))

The console was going to go from the left of the pillar to the end of the wall. The other option is to end it exactly where the sofa arm ends but then I have to rely on the kids not jumping on the sofa and pushing it around (which is a bit of an ask...) Alternatively I could continue it on the left hand side of the pillar almost up to the window. Then it would run all the way along the back of the sofa. Joiner is coming tomorrow and so I need to decide really. Plant in the corner is an idea, I hadn't thought of that. At the moment I just have a basket of throws. Yes I am keen to see the paint on the exterior walls. I hope it was the right decision. I'll post a photo on that thread as soon as a section is done.

It is quite formal, but by hanging your pictures in a less orderly way, more ramshackle than perfection, might help. more paintings, more photo frames, more personal. if you always have symmetricallly placed things then it will automatically look formal, try being less symmetrical! the room also perhaps lacks some other textures, try something fluffy ( not my normal go to phrase), a couple more cushions in a non- co-ordinated co-ordinate - complicated huh?...something like a woolly burnt orange in a different shape, rectangular or round, even a velvet. it is a lovely room and well considered but often when people design a room they miss tiny details. you are a stones throw away from perfection. please get in touch if you are in the glasgow area and need a wee help finding the perfect thing - always happy to help

Hi, thank you for your help - was able to find a foam cut to size company called ComfortUK who did it for me - didn’t even know they existed until your comment!!
