How to finish off the kitchen! Arghhh

Hi everyone,I'm really hoping you could offer me some suggestions on how I can go about putting the finishing touches to my kitchen diner.We had our kitchen fitted (off white handle-less kitchen with grey quartz worktops and lvt flooring fitted just before Christmas and apart from the skirting that should be fitted next week, I am completely stumped on how to finish off the room with colour and accessories.I like the idea of having a little sofa in there, possibly by the bay window, max size 150cm to fit it in nicely, my idea was to have a colourful one and accessorise from there but I really don't know where to start!The footstool currently in the bay window and the cupboard on the blank wall are soon to be thrown in the garage.The wall where the cupboard currently is seems a big wall to leave bare, what should go there?What colour walls? Arghhh!!! too much to think about and I don't know where to start!Any inspiration and ideas from you for anything to be added to this kitchen to make it look beautiful will be appreciated.Thank you!!!!

Hi Lilly! Well... I have to be honest and admit that I was thinking about lying and saying it's great, etc. The truth is: I've never used it! not once. I'm a shower girl and it's not that I won't take a bath (I would, I promise I'm not whiffy!!) it's just that since we've moved in, I never had the time or felt the need. Plus, I feel guilty and uneasy thinking of the amount of water I'd waste filling up that monster (and we have a second tub in the loft bathroom that's smaller -- never used that one either...) When we chose the tub, I think hubby and I were a bit nostalgic; I used to have this huge hideous burgundy corner bath in the house I bought just before we met and let's just say, we used to like taking baths together (hmmmm...). So we went for a large one, I guess both thinking of our almost decade old adventures'! I did however undertake an experiment for you: I went and laid in it, just to see how it is. I'm 1.62m (about 5'4'') and with a slight bend of either knees or neck, you can sleep quite comfortably in there. I also thought it could be a great hiding place in case of 'god forbids': fill half of it with water, add bubbles and submerge - it's enough to cover all of you & hopefully nobody will think to look for you in there! :)) I've digressed ... not sure if I answered your question. If you wanted details about the make of the tub - this is a Clearwater natural stone bathtub: http://www.clearwaterbaths.com/products_main.asp?cat=201&subcat=395 I can tell you another downside of it: if you ignore the waste of space and water, you can't ignore the amount of dust that accumulates in it. I've resorted at hoovering it; just rinsing it with water didn't do it.... But hey! it looks great and generates questions on Houzz, so I guess it has its uses, right?!! :))

Hi Monica. The kitchen looks great. I'd go for a light grey on the walls, you could look at farrow and ball strong white or a darker grey such as cornforth white , both should work with the floor which has grey tones. Can you take more pics of the seating end and give dimensions? I'm just wondering if a small sofa would be better next to the kitchen units (broken up by a really tall plant) with a chair in the corner between the doors with a lamp behind? The compact sofa, chair (also comes in grey and yellow) and floor lamp are all m&s. I like Monica's idea of enamel pendants, these are by pooky. Will you be dressing the windows at all? I'd accessorise with lots of different textures and plants to get that scandi feel. I'd look at a mirror splashback which will also make the room feel wider, I like an antiqued effect for texture but you may prefer a plain one. If you're keeping the walls very light then a few accessories such as picture frames will work

Hi we would move the fridge to the right if possible against the wall putting the hoover etc in between fridge and washing machine. Then get a blind which you could hang from the ceiling to pull down over the fronts of the washing machine, tumble dryer and cleaning items so can be kept down whilst not using. Leaving only the fridge door exposed? so looks tidy in maybe a grey could try ikea too? Maybe paint all walls a very pale grey ammonite colour from Farrow and Ball. Keep accessories to a minimum display chopping boards with marble i.e. anthropology and white storage containers. Some succulent plants on your kitchen window sill very on trend. I would put a simple white radiator cover from B & Q over radiator use for putting picture frames on. Your lovely barcelona chair and matching stool calling out for a grey sheep skin throw. This is an interesting question. It has been asked before. Cleaning gloss doors is far easier. I have super matt dove grey handleless doors and I agree they are not the easiest to clean. Might not show the fingerprints to your mind but once the light shines on them in a specific way then the mucky marks show up. One of the most effective things I’ve found is a Magic Eraser. You can buy these almost anywhere now including Poundland. Then there is Vuplex a spray cleaner but you won’t find it in the shops but can get it online. In my experience using Vuplex is smelly. It’s strong and makes the kitchen stink until the fumes have gone. You need the doors and windows open. Can’t recall what else was previously suggested but I guess people will add to this post.

Hi Kel,

Definitely agree you need to add some colour and accessories. However before you can pick a colour its all about how you want the room to feel? Do you want it to feel warm, bright or cocoon like and cosy? Once you can describe how you want the room to feel it's easier to come up with the colours. Let me know how you want the room to feel and I can suggest some colours for you.

In terms of the wall with the cupboard I suggest creating a gallery wall by a way of adding your personality, interest and more colour! I wouldn't add any furniture here as this area looks like the entry point for the room so you'd want to avoid blocking this area and instead create flow.

I recommend a small bench perhaps in a natural material like wood to go under the bay window so that the light can enter and not block the view. I also recommend changing the blinds to either shutters and or curtains. I feel like there needs to be softer elements in this room as the kitchen units look nice and modern but that can sometimes lack character so you want to add as much character back into the room.
