How much finger prints show up will depend a lot more on the quality of paint than the actually sheen, although to be fair with a french grey you shouldn't have too much trouble anyway. Even more so with a handleless kitchen, given that the point of touch is often hidden from view. Comments (18)Definitely prefer Matt for walls, but love oil based gloss for woodwork. I've tried water based soft sheen for woodwork in the past but found it hard to get a good finish and dirt clings to it. I'm getting los of favourable interest in my latest brilliant white doors and skirting. Cleaning brushes is a bit more trouble but well worth it I think....See MoreMatt paint over shiny
Comments (2)If you are getting an effect like that you need to prepare more, it is a sign that the new paint is not adhering to the surface. Comments (5)I personally would not as it might 'peel', it might not, but better safe than sorry. Let the paint thoroughly dry and if it's the same base ie Acrylic, which is most likely these days, then sand and re-paint. If you do not wish to sand, or they are different bases, then wait for the paint to thoroughly dry and then use Zinsser 1-2-3 primer or even Zinsser Peel Stop to go over the gloss and then paint with the Matt....See MorePatrina
