What is the best way to keep rabbits out of a vegetable patch?

I have a galvanized wire mesh. Do you guys recommend digging a 30mm trench and burying it, or do we bend it and run it under the fence at ground level for 40cm?

It`s best to make a fine-meshed grid of metal or plastic. The structure should be at least 3 feet high and - it should be 7 inches underground to prevent hungry rabbits from digging underneath. If you consider an option without a fence, you need to raise the beds above the ground. The next alternative is to deter with loud noises. Hang (especially if there`s a tree nearby) a pair of tin cans connected with wire. Under the influence of wind cans make all sorts of noises - frightened rabbits are unlikely to venture into the danger zone. Also, check out all about rabbits here, which also may be helpful. If you were to put the utility door in the hall which might be more practical for washing, you could do something like this? Rather than the island have the peninsula as shown in your whole ground floor layout. Personally speaking I'd also go for an integrated FF as it's a much cleaner and streamlined look and I think fewer appliances on show in a living space the better. I'd have a banquette seat for the dining table so you can have it against the wall. An L shaped might work well. I'd try the sofas opposite each other to create a bit more space although that may not work depending on how many people in your family watching tv! I think you'd need to bring in the one opposite the tv a little to be able to see the tv anyway unless it's a massive tv! Although if the dining table is pushed back into that corner as suggested it does leave room for a corner sofa with perhaps a low back chair opposite it in front of the tv.

This is what I just sent as mentioned in above comments ^ I think after a lot of deliberation I am going to tone back my design quite a lot and hopefully build a glass conservatory out in the side return after doing the rest of the the renovations inside the back of the house. This is what I would like to do to begin with: With the intension of doing this after the the above is done: Im just trying to find out from a structural point of view if would I need to add a new steel RSJ in above where the current window opening is in order to put in the french windows, or bottom sliding Bi-folds in, and also find out if I have to move the boiler to make this design comply with building regs? If the answer is yes. Then I think I would bite the bullet and move the boiler and put a bigger opening in here to make something more like this: With a the possibility of adding something like this after the main works had been done: I would like the have a glass and steel conservatory sit on a steel conservatory base that is placed on concrete pads. Hi there, not sure if you’ve made any progress but hope I can help. Did you use a foam gloss roller or fluffy one? Only asking because I had the same patchy effect when painting downstairs loo with foam roller. Also can depend on the paint used. With water based paints such as the F&B eggshell I think it can show up bubbling more than the oil based ones. For your cabinet I suggest lightly sanding the rough patches and just go for the paintbrush. Work the the paint while it’s wet. Load up the brush so it’s got enough paint to spread around but not dribbling. Don’t work in the paint when it’s drying as this can create a dragging effect and more patchiness so if you’re working close to a radiator or heat source you need to work quickly. Personally I prefer using a fluffy roller for larger surfaces but I think a paintbrush will be just fine. Planning on a similar project myself in the near future using car enamel paint which I imagine is extra gloopy (we’ll see how that goes:)) Hope all goes well. X

Hi, yes, I do try to grow my own veg. I say try, because it's a case of hit and miss. And then try again. But it's so very satisfying when you see your plants grow and you can actually eat what you've grown yourself. So I would definitely recommend it. It's fun and can also be very frustrating. But mostly fun. Even a big pot on your patio, with leaf salad in it is hugely satisfying. Just go out and pick the leaves you need for your salad and let the rest grow for the next time. Anyway, when you grow from seed, water every day. Important to keep the soil moist for the seeds to be able to develop. There's a lot of interesting information on Pinterest and Instagram. If I want to grow green beans for example, I search pinterest for tips on growing them. And I follow a lot of allotment people on Insta. Also, look for Charles Dowding on youtube. What do you want to grow? I like to interplant my vegetables with flowers. Makes it look pretty and some flowers have beneficial qualities for the veg. So for example Tagetes (also easy to grow from seed) work against some harmful nematodes that eat your potatoes.
